Chevy Blazer EV Rival Ford Mustang Mach-E Gets Improved Range And Charge Time

Ford has released a variety of new updates to the Ford Mustang Mach-E, including greater range and reduced charging times, as well as a new upgrade package that ups vehicle torque by 100 pound-feet. Further enhancements include revisions in the cabin with updates to the infotainment system. The Ford Mustang Mach-E rivals the Chevy Blazer EV.

The most impactful change is a new rear electric motor, developed in-house by Ford’s engineering team. This motor not only reduces the vehicle’s weight but also boosts torque across all 2024 models, contributing to an improved overall driving experience.

Additionally, vehicle range has received a boost as well, with the 2024 Mustang Mach-E Select model, equipped with a standard-range battery and rear-wheel drive, now offering an EPA-estimated range of 250 miles, a 20-mile increase compared to the 2021 model year. The Premium model, featuring an extended-range battery and rear-wheel drive, offers up an estimated 320-mile range, also a 20-mile improvement compared to the 2021 model year. Critically, Ford previously tweaked the battery chemistry for 2023, providing 250 miles per charge for standard-range RWD models and 310 miles for extended-range RWD models.

With regard to charging times, 2024 Mustang Mach-E models equipped with the extended-range battery now charge nearly 20 percent faster using DC fast charging, taking roughly 36.2 minutes to reach 80 percent from 10 percent, an 8.8-minute improvement. Models equipped with the standard-range battery models now require only 32.3 minutes to charge from 10 to 80 percent, 5.7 minutes quicker than the estimated time to charge at launch. Additionally, Mach-E owners can now access the Tesla Supercharger network but will require an adapter to connect to the NACS ports.

Also notable is the introduction of the Performance Upgrade, which adds an extra 100 pound-feet of torque, which means the 2024 Mustang Mach-E GT with the new upgrade can outpace competitors like the Tesla Model Y Performance and Porsche Macan 4 Electric, sprinting to 60 mph in 3.3 seconds and completing the quarter mile in 11.8 seconds. The arrival of the Performance Upgrade package coincides with the elimination of the GT Performance as a standalone trim level.

Finally, Ford altered the interface on the 15.5-inch center touchscreen with new button icons and a reorganized settings page. Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto continue to be standard across the lineup.
