Competitive Sales Comparison (USA)
Chevy Silverado sales during the first quarter of 2024 kept the Bow Tie brand’s line of full-size light-duty and heavy-duty pickup trucks in second place in its segment from the previous quarter when ranked by sales volume, as it has for more than a year now. The Ford F-Series (see running Ford F-series sales) lineup kept the top spot in spite of a 13 percent dip in sales to 145,200 units, while the Silverado (see running Chevy Silverado sales) took second with a two percent increase to 128,926 units. As such, Chevy Silverado sales this quarter actually narrowed the gap even more with the F-Series.
The Ram Pickup lineup placed third with a 15 percent drop to 89,417 units, while the GMC Sierra (see running GMC Sierra sales) line of trucks, the Silverado’s corporate cousin and T1 platform mate, took fourth with a two percent uptick to 68,597 units. The Toyota Tundra followed in fifth with a 31 percent bump to 36,215 units. The all-electric Ford F-150 Lightning (see running Ford F-150 Lightning sales) saw sales grow 80 percent for 7,743 deliveries, outselling the Nissan Titan, which posted a three percent increase to 4,145 units. The all-electric GMC Hummer EV Pickup (see running GMC Hummer EV Pickup sales) moved 1,668 units, and the new all-electric Chevy Silverado EV (see running Silverado EV sales) posted 1,061 deliveries.

The Ram Pickup held a 19 percent share, down two percentage points, followed by the Sierra with a 14 percent share, up one percentage point. Combining Chevy Silverado sales with the Silverado EV and the GMC Sierra and Hummer EV Pickup gave GM a solid 200,252 combined deliveries for a 41 percent segment share, outselling Ford by over 47K units. The GM Authority Take
Chevy Silverado sales this first quarter of the year were nearly flat again, though this time, it slightly outperformed the segment as a whole. Combining all of GM’s trucks, both ICE-based and battery-powered models, enabled the automaker to keep the crown as the best-seller of full-size pickup trucks in the U.S., outselling Ford by over 47K units. Notably, the F-Series was in the red again, as it was the previous quarter.
Chevy’s truck lineup of refreshed models and off-road-focused offerings positions the Bow Tie brand quite well in terms of sales, with an all-electric model joining that stable of offerings. Full-size trucks are the lifeblood of General Motors, with Chevy and GMC models combined accounting for 34 percent, or over a third, of all GM sales in the U.S. during Q1 2024. Meanwhile, the Chevy truck lineup is responsible for 33 percent, or a third, of all Bow Tie brand sales in the U.S.
About Chevrolet Silverado
For 2024, changes and updates include the Chevy Silverado 2.7L engine being named “TurboMax.” That engine now gets the Hydra-Matic 8L80 M5U revised eight-speed automatic transmission.
Also, the 2024 Silverado ZR2 offers the LZ0 Duramax diesel engine to provide more low-end torque while off-roading, joining the naturally aspirated 6.2L V8 L87 gasoline engine for available powerplants. That 6.2-liter will sound meaner thanks to a new Active Exhaust system. The 2024 Silverado ZR2 is also available with new beadlock-capable wheels and new black and red beadlock wheel decorative rings.
Meanwhile, the 2024 Silverado High Country will be available with the Midnight Edition Package. All 2024 Silverado 1500 offer a new drop-in bedliner and a new bed Utility Wall Package.
Here’s everything new and different with the 2024 Chevy Silverado 1500.
The Chevy Silverado 1500 now offers a ZR2 Spec Multimatic DSSV Shock System accessory for the 2019 model year or later Silverado 1500, with a design and tuning intended to provide the truck with improved off-road performance.
Currently, the fastest-turning Chevy Silverado trim levels include the Custom Trail Boss, LT Trail Boss, and ZR2. The ZR2 Bison Edition is in the mix as a fast-turning model, as it’s a package on the all-terrain-focused Silverado ZR2.
About Chevrolet Silverado HD
Last fall, GM unveiled the refreshed 2024 Chevy Silverado HD with new exterior styling, an overhauled interior, new tech including standard wireless CarPlay and Android Auto, safety features like Adaptive Cruise Control, and upgrades to the powertrain lineup. The updated Silverado HD also offers a new High Country Premium package which replaces the High Country Deluxe package offered previously. Also, the 2024 Silverado HD offers two new 22-inch wheel options, with certain of those rollers now available on more trim levels.
Back in April, The General debuted the first-ever 2024 Chevy Silverado HD ZR2 as the flagship off-roader for the Bow Tie brand’s heavy-duty pickup line, while the new Chevy Silverado HD ZR2 Bison takes the big rig even further when it comes to off-road capability.
Under the hood, the 2024 Chevy Silverado HD cradles the 6.6L L8T V8 gasoline engine as standard, while the 6.6L V8 L5P turbodiesel Duramax engine is optional. The diesel engine also boasts an improved, SAE-certified output of 470 horsepower and 975 pound-feet of torque, improvements to both metrics over the 2020 through 2023 model years. For 2024, the gasoline engine now connect to GM’s ten-speed automatic transmission, replacing the GM six-speed for prior model years.
In November month, the Chevy Silverado HD won the Vincentric 2024 Lowest CPO Cost To Own In America Award in the Full-Size 3/4-Ton and Full-Size 1-Ton Pickup categories, based on several factors. The Chevy Silverado 2500 HD has $1,623 lower ownership costs, and the 3500 HD has $2,338 lower costs relative to the “nearest competitor,” outperforming three competing models according to the award.
In January, GM unveiled the 2025 Chevy Silverado HD, highlighting several updates and changes, the most notable of which is the highly anticipated new 2025 Chevy Silverado HD Trail Boss package.
About Chevrolet Silverado EV
The first-ever 2024 Chevy Silverado EV officially debuted at CES 2022, arriving in the well-equipped RST First Edition and fleet-focused WT trim levels.
The RST trim level arrives with a long feature list, debuting as the RST First Edition. A Trail Boss trim will launch as a 2025 model. Other trims, such as a new Custom trim level that GM Authority was first to report about, as well as a High Country trim, are expected to join the lineup in the near future.
The RST First Edition features GM’s Adaptive Air Ride suspension as standard and four-wheel-steering for improved maneuverability like that of the Hummer EV Pickup.
The Chevy Silverado EV was among the NACTOY 2024 Truck of the Year finalists, competing in the 30th annual North American Car, Truck, and Utility Vehicle of the Year Awards.

Comments
Truck sales are finally cooling off. All those outrageous prices might be the reason. There go the big moneymakers. Uh oh.
Two weeks ago I bought a 2023 Silverado LT that was a service loaner from a local dealer. It had 6,500 miles on it and was “certified”.
I traded in a 2020 F-150 w/40,000 miles on it. While the 10 speeds in both trucks are somewhat related-I can’t understand how GM’s is silky smooth and the F150’s transmission makes an other wise decent truck absolutely terrible to drive.
I originally traded in a 2018 Silverado on the Ford.
I now realize what a costly mistake that was.
If you can’t sleep at night google “F150-10 speed transmission problems”……
CKNSLS…my friend is a mechanic and he says that Ford interiors, styling and packaging are nice but the mechanicals aren’t the greatest in the industry and he wonders why Ford is still number one in truck sales. I have owned mostly GM vehicles so far and they are good reliable transportation I can’t complain.
I agree with you 100%. The only engines Ford got right was the 4.6L in the Crown Victoria and the 2V 4.6/5.4 in the F 150/Expedition, the 7.3 IDI diesel, the 6.2L BOSS V8 and the 5.0 Coyote 1st and 2nd gen (until 2017).
The problem with Ford is that they keep changing engines and things as soon as they get them right…..which is bad.
Also, Ford seems to choose form over function, unlike Chevrolet. It is bad enough to be in a race to get the best technology…..
The GM twins outsold Ford F series by 52,000 units.
Yep, and GM has outsold Ford in light duty pickups since Q1 2020.
