The GM Authority Take
Buick Envision sales performed quite well to start out the year, good enough to move into second place and, combined with sales of the Cadillac XT4, put GM into take first place overall in this segment, accounting for a quarter of all deliveries. It is an impressive feat against strong competition, beating out the likes of Lexus, Acura, Audi, BMW, Mercedes-Benz, and crosstown rival Lincoln.
While the Envision continues to perform well, the forthcoming refreshed 2024 model should help the small premium crossover gain even more sales when it hits dealerships this summer.
About Buick Envision
The 2023 Buick Envision represents the third model year of the crossover’s second generation. It remains essentially unchanged from the 2022 Buick Envision, save for a few updates to the color palette and equipment, including new standard equipment added to the Avenir trim level.
In North America, the Envision continues to be powered solely by GM’s turbocharged 2.0L I4 LSY engine, rated at 228 horsepower and 258 pound-feet of torque. The four-cylinder is mated to the GM nine-speed automatic transmission, with front-wheel drive standard and all-wheel drive optional.
In December 2022, Consumer Reports named the Buick Envision among the best vehicles for fitting three child car seats. It gave the 2023 Buick Envision a “recommended” rating a month later.
This past November, Buick ranked first In the J.D. Power 2023 U.S. Sales Satisfaction Index for the second year in a row.
However, Buick ranked average in the Consumer Reports 2024 reliability report, though it still placed above the average dependability of U.S. automakers, and the premium marque leads domestic brands in the Consumer Reports 2024 rankings, placing Buick directly ahead of Cadillac.
The 2024 Buick Envision introduces a mid-cycle refresh with new styling and a revised interior. The lineup now includes Preferred, Sport Touring (ST), and Avenir trim levels. It follows the Y trim structure making its way through all four GM brands in the U.S. A first for the nameplate, ST is a new standalone trim that replaces the mid-tier Essence trim along with the Sport Touring Package previously offered on Preferred and Essence trims. Regardless of the name, however, ST does not bring any performance upgrades.
And while the 2024 Envision won’t offer Super Cruise after all due to unspecified constraints, the Technology Package I will now be included as standard on all 2024 Envision trim levels, which features the Bose Premium nine-speaker audio system and a Head-Up Display. Additionally, the 2024 Envision does offer many new standard safety features. The 2024 Envision loses two paint colors, Rich Garnet Metallic and Sapphire Metallic, which are replaced by Calypso Blue Metallic and Smokey Amethyst Metallic.
For the first time, the 2024 Buick Envision offers standard all-wheel drive in the U.S., specifically a twin-clutch AWD system. The turbocharged LSY engine will remain the sole powertrain available on the 2024 Envision.
Refreshed 2024 Buick Envision is set to launch this summer, featuring an updated exterior and a new interior, as well as a 30-inch diagonal infotainment screen and more standard safety features.

Congratulations to Buick and its Envision for an impressive sales result, which is an indisputable fact (despite however many thumbs-down some people give it)!
Too bad it’s not built in the USA. So nice of him to look out for the best interest of this country🙄
Tigger Toyotas are built in this country but trust me they don’t have the best interest of the US in mind either! Anyway great job Buick only placing behind Lexus is true accomplishment! Let nay Sayers boo hoo I would buy one! 👍👍 It’s partly America’s fault they are built in China all of a sudden people care when for decades people would not buy Buick cars China gobbled them up like candy that’s why they are built there!
There are many good American-made alternatives to the Chinese built Buicks including the Lincoln Corsair and the Cadillac XT4.
Yeah, but they aren’t selling well
I wouldn’t touch a Ford product with a ten foot pole if it was given to me I would trade it in on the the Buick envision! The Cadillac Xt4 I would consider…
I don’t find the sales ‘impressive’.
Lower sales year to year and lower market share.
OK I concede the Env sales are better than the XT4 but that’s such a low bar
Buick/GM never fails to snack failure from the jaws of success. Instead of realizing Envision was a winner and using the design ss a benchmark for future models, they instead shifted to “Pure” which lacks the luxe design cues. Envision could easily be mistaken for a Benz. The Next Enclave should have followed Envision but, instead, looks like a Honda.
Envision Plus should also be sold in US
So Steven I personally think the old Buick envision front end looked dated and cheap the new “pure” design looks much cleaner and upscale I would not mistake this for a Benz it looks like a Buick and look at the grill it’s not Lexus huge whick is nice to…I don’t get it my wife’s 2019 enclave has a massive waterfall grill but that’s ok. IMO the downfall of Buick in this country was catering to an aging demographic years ago with the same old design that younger people didn’t want yeah let’s go backwards and make Buick less successful by not making them different and more modern looking then they won’t sell again and maybe GM will drop Buick as a brand but that’s ok you can have your outdated design.
Chinese cars are bad… We should block importing them… No, wait… Some Chinese cars are bad, but this one is okay… BYD is evil because of CCP. GM is American! (except for the CCP joint ownership). This is so confusing! /s
Compelling product with just a hint of hypocrisy.
The U.S. has a 25% tariff on Chinese vehicles. I’m assuming the Envision doesn’t have this problem because its made by an American company. Does anyone know??
No, it’s still subject to the tariff. But with the slave labor wages the Chinese workers make, gm still comes out ahead.
LostMe yes none designed GM Chinese cars are bad but the Buicks are built to GM standards as if they where built here. I don’t get it we but junk Korean cars Hyundai for example that have engine failure problems the Palisades just went through a massive engine failure recall with it “new darling of news media” V6 engine, certain older Hyundais can cause fires in the ICE engine, brake fluid dripping on hot brakes causing a fire oh and don’t forget Nissan they haven’t had the greatest track record lately either failing electronics abd CVT transmissions…but these Asian brands are ok to buy but Chinese is evil! Like I said in a previous comment if we (THE USA) where really worried about China we should have stopped imports 20-25 years ago it’s to late now we are partly to blame we helped create the industrial powerhouse that China is now…and now people care about made in China it’s to late.
I agree with everything you said. So with all of those problems… How do gm and the other 1.5 US carmakers still manage to turn off customers so badly that the cars that you listed are the perceived better option?
Lostme I can answer for Hyundai it’s because people see a cheaper price and more goodies and think it’s a great value when mean while it’s really not….it’s a classic game Walmart plays all the time we’ll give you more for less money but is really an inferior product. Also like I said Korean and Japanese are ok but China is to no good and to feared please part of Korea is communist to and Japan doesn’t care about Americans the only reason why they build cars here is because it’s cost effective if it wasn’t the Koreans and Japanese would be gone and then we say bye bye to all those jobs. It’s about money not us.
I thought they discontinued the Lincoln Brand due to lack of exciting product?
@LarryR Ford discontinued Mercury Lincoln is still around it’s just that people don’t buy that many of them…part of the reason is because every time Ford has a good competitor they discontinue it the Excursion, the original navigator, town car, Continental they didn’t really give the new one long in the market at at all. I think Lincoln needs some fresh products further away from Ford’s models yes the Escalade is on the same platform as the Tahoe but the interior is much better for the money and the outside looks distinctive the current navigator looks like an expedition with more chrome. Who knows maybe a luxury version of the mustang could work for Lincoln to they need new life in that brand.
I am a GM guy, but you haven’t even looked at Lincoln lately have you? Their vehicles look nothing like their Ford counter parts both internally and externally. Lincoln is doing a fantastic job with design and demographic (they are going for the nice riding American luxury type vehicle as opposed to the sporty German angle. I am a fan of what Lincoln has been doing, only problem is their reliability is attached to Ford and they aren’t the most efficient and utilizing space as the others, otherwise the style and comfort is the tits. I wouldn’t buy one but the Navigator, Aviator, Nautilus, all great for their class in those terms. Think you need to look again…
The last true Lincoln was the RWD, V8 LS. Everything thereafter is garbage. There should be a proper LS, longer Continental and Mark9 built off the current S650 platform that the Mustang uses. The platform is not being utilized correctly for profitability. Ford’s loss again. But let’s bring out another special edition Mustang. As I recall, Lincoln didn’t have a special 100th anniversary edition here in America. But we have special edition Mustangs one after another. Ford hates Lincoln or they would make the brand competitive with MB, Cadillac, BMW etc.
Bought our Envision Essence in March. Great vehicle. Traded in the 2017 which was a solid, reliable vehicle.
I think this article missed a major point. Look at the segment chart entitled “Sales Numbers – Luxury C-Segment Crossovers – Q1 2024 – USA”. It clearly shows the message: the ONLY two cars that LOST sales compared to Q1 last year are the 2 GM products: the Envision & the XT4. Sure, they both have slight “refreshes” coming (late) in 2024… but this is overall bad news for GM’s entries. GM needs to do better.
I just purchased a 2023 Buick Envision Avenir, and am very I,pressed with its build quality and both interior and exterior design. And no black plastic around the fender wells and below the doors. Very upscale, and so was my first commute. Very quiet, and I enjoyed the adaptive cruise covtrol. Ever had that in the past. If you just look at the car, take it for a drive, you may just put one in your garage. I did!
Watch sales slip to nothing with that absolutely awful refresh.
the new buicks like the encore and envista have had great sales with the new styling, don’t see why the envision would be any different (provided they don’t jack the price up a huge amount)
Dmo awful to you but please don’t speak for everyone else I happen to like the refresh it’s about time Buick went it’s own way instead of being an old person’s car.
it’s a good looking and well equipped SUV for a good price, easy to see why it sells well
If GM invests real money into the Envision and the rest of the lineup, I think Buick sales will soar.
Including offering sedans and coupes
Wife’s 2022 Avenir has been a decent vehicle. Recalled for the DRL’s and the foot sweep sensor for the hatch wasn’t working. Showed the Buick sign on the ground but no go on opening. My one beef is this car can park itself, has every option except massaging seats. It has NO lumbar support. Went to use it the other day for the first time after tweaking my lower back and I reached for the little circular button like my Acadia work vehicle has and it ain’t there! Really, you have to pay for massaging seats to get lumbar? $52,000 Canadian, come on. Unless there’s a lumbar button hiding somewhere?
I can relate. I just bought a 2023 envision. No massaging or lumbar support. Apparently parts were unavailable to complete the build for those seats. I want a response from GM that they will rectify this blunder. I have a bad back from serious surgery, and all I want is some form of comfort from my driver’s seat. Please GM, make this happen.
