Andretti Cadillac F1 Team Would Be Ready For 2026 Season

General Motors has plans to break onto the Formula One grid with Cadillac, having partnered with Andretti Global to make it happen. Despite pushback from F1, which ultimately rejected GM’s proposal even though GM itself registered to become a power unit manufacturer, GM is still confident that the Cadillac F1 team will become a reality and that fans could expect the luxury marque to hit the racing circuit as early as 2026.

As per a recent report from The Athletic, Andretti Global continues to move forward with plans to race as though the motorsports outfit had already been approved for F1 competition in the 2026 season. Andretti said it “strongly disagreed” with F1’s decision to reject GM’s application, considering that the Fédération Internationale de l’Automobile (FIA) had already approved it. As such, Andretti indicated that it would continue with plans “at pace.”

In fact, Andretti recently cut the ribbon at a new facility in Silverstone, where it plans to base its European efforts. The new factory is a satellite of the organization’s planned global headquarters, which will be located in Fishers, Indiana, and will be responsible for building Cadillac F1 race cars for competition.

Michael Andretti, CEO and chairman of Andretti Global, said that opening the Silverstone factory was “a big step to show the commitment that we’re going to have” to F1 racing and that it is the first step toward creating more jobs within the industry. Andretti has already attracted experts from existing F1 organizations and plans to hire 400 employees for duties as the new factory eventually.

Now, the only thing to do is wait for approval, but Andretti remains confident that a Cadillac F1 team will hit the grid in 2026.

“Once the people hear that it’s approved, the ones that are sitting on the sidelines are going to start jumping real fast,” Andretti said. “We need that to happen sooner than later, obviously, because we still have a big job to do. But in the meantime, we’re pretty far down the road.”
