2024 GMC Hummer EV Drive Modes Explained

From the local trails to the urban jungle, the GMC Hummer EV is well-equipped to handle a variety of terrains and driving scenarios. Part of that impressive flexibility comes down to the plethora of drive modes on hand, not to mention all the wild features, such as CrabWalk Mode and Watts To Freedom Mode. Now, GM Authority is taking a closer look at the various 2024 GMC Hummer EV drive modes with the following explainer.

To switch between the various modes, use the Driver Mode Control knob, which is located on the center console. Every mode but Normal Mode illuminates a persistent indicator in the instrument cluster.

Normal Mode

Each on/off cycle puts the GMC Hummer EV into Normal Mode, which is recommended for normal city and highway driving on clear, smooth roads.

Off-Road Mode

Of course, some GMC Hummer EV owners will want to take their all-electric rig off the pavement. As such, Off-Road Mode is designed for moderate speeds on grass, gravel, dirt, and snow-covered roads, tailoring the throttle response for these types of surfaces. The steering, suspension, active rear steering, four-wheel drive, vehicle sound enhancement, ABS, ESC, and traction control are all affected as well.

Tow/Haul Mode

This mode provides enhanced performance and vehicle control when hauling heavy loads, adjusting the throttle, steering, rear-wheel steer, suspension, and traction control. Tow-Haul Mode remains active if the vehicle is turned off and restarted in a period of four hours or less.

Terrain Mode

Terrain Mode is designed specifically for low speeds on very rough roads, such as heavily rutted roads or two-track. This mode maximizes torque for improved control and limits speed to 50 mph. Terrain Mode will also hold the vehicle stationary if stopped on an upward grade.

My Mode

My Mode allows for unique personalization of the various vehicle systems and will remain active between on/off cycles.

CrabWalk Mode

CrabWalk Mode allows the driver to turn the rear wheels at the same angle as the front wheels, enabling the vehicle to move diagonally, which is useful in tight spaces – or to just show off.

Watts To Freedom Mode

WTF Mode enables rapid acceleration and is not intended for daily use or when the battery state of charge is low. This mode lowers the vehicle and launches it from 0 to 60 mph in as little as three seconds.
