2024 GMC Canyon To Offer New Off-Road Front Bumper Package

While the third-generation GMC Canyon stands as an improvement over the preceding generation in nearly every facet, the off-road-focused AT4 and AT4X trim levels up the ante over standard Canyon variants in regard to all-terrain capabilities. With that in mind, the 2024 GMC Canyon AT4 and AT4X will now be available with a new off-road bumper package.

The Off-Road Front Bumper Package (RPO code X31) will be available on the AT4 and AT4X trims and includes:

  • Off-road front bumper with safari bar (VH6)
  • Off-road bumper pod lights (5BO)
  • 30-Inch grille-mounted off-road light bar (S3W)
  • Performance front skid plate (PZZ)
  • Wiring harness for off-road bumper lights (WRT)
  • Accessory switch kit (UJA)
  • Accessory power distribution box (SAB)

Pricing is set at $4,495. It’s worth noting this package can’t be had in conjunction with the Skid Plate Package, LPO (RPO code PCQ) on the Canyon AT4, while the Canyon AT4X can’t combine the X31 package with the AT4X AEV Edition (RPO code XEV). In addition, the Off-Road Front Bumper Package features similar content to the 2023 Canyon Edition 1 package, albeit with different RPO codes.

In other GMC Canyon-related developments, shipments of Big Red’s midsize pickup truck had been delayed due to a stop-sale order enacted by General Motors in February 2024 due to “intermittent software quality issues.” Thankfully, a fix was identified and implemented, and deliveries have now commenced.

As a reminder, the entire Canyon lineup is powered by the TurboMax turbocharged 2.7L I4 L3B gasoline engine, rated at 310 horsepower and 430 pound-feet of torque, while output is routed through the second-gen GM eight-speed automatic transmission. Meanwhile, only the Elevation can be configured with standard 2WD or optional 4WD, as every other trim level is equipped with 4WD as standard.

Under the skin lies an updated variant of the GMT 31XX platform, while production takes place at the GM Wentzville plant in Missouri.

  1. What? you can’t get this with the skid plate package? What on earth will the couples going to the mall do now?

  2. Package comes with a “performance” skid plate. See snip below….

Offered as an LPO or dealer-installed option, the Off-Road Front Bumper Package (RPO code X31) will be available on the AT4 and AT4X trims and includes:

    1. Danno: I was just being a smart-a** and having some fun. But now that you say that, I’m confused as it shows what you said and the next line says it’s not available. Is there a difference between the “performance front skid plate” and the “skid plate package”?

If yes and this new front bumper is available with the performance skid plates, then the mall rats will be extra happy. That performance skid plate will help them with those pesky speed bumps and extra high curbs!

      1. Yes, the regular skid plate package cannot be ordered as this package supercedes the regular skid plate package.
Hey, their money, their choice on how to spend it. Mall crawling or whatever.

  3. Isn’t this the Chevrolet Desert Boss leftovers? I know the bumper package was about $2500 not including install.
