The 2024 Chevy Traverse marks the first model year for the latest third-gen crossover, ushering in a long list of updates and changes, including new exterior styling, an overhauled cabin, and a new powertrain. The 2024 model year also introduces the new Chevy Traverse Z71, which stands out in the third-gen Traverse lineup thanks to enhanced off-road capability and improved approach and departure angles. Now, we’re taking a closer look at the Traverse Z71’s approach and departure angle specs, comparing them to the other Traverse trims, as well as rival models.
Starting with the basics, the Chevy Traverse Z71’s unique bumper design contributes to a front overhang of 40.7 inches (1,033 mm), slightly longer than on the other Traverse trims. Comparatively, the 2024 Ford Explorer Timberline and 2024 Honda Pilot TrailSport, two of the Z71’s closest competitors, feature front overhangs of 33.7 inches (856 mm) and 40.1 inches (1,019 mm) respectively.
Ground clearance in the Chevy Traverse Z71 is also notably higher at 7.76 inches (197 mm), which is greater than the other Traverse variants’ 6.77 inches (172 mm). This increase, though modest, brings the Traverse closer to its rugged rivals like the Nissan Pathfinder Rock Creek (7.7 inches) and the 2024 Honda Pilot TrailSport (8.3 inches).
Where the Chevy Traverse Z71 truly shines is in its approach and departure angles – 21 degrees and 24 degrees, respectively. These figures represent a significant improvement over the other Traverse trims and are competitive when matched against vehicles like the 2024 Ford Explorer Timberline, which sports an approach angle of 23.5 degrees and a departure angle of 23.7 degrees.

The Z71’s off-road enhancements are supported by additional features like an “off-road-capable” twin-clutch all-wheel drive system, skid plates, and red tow hooks. Notably, the Traverse is the first unibody model to wear a Z71 badge.
As a reminder, the third-generation Chevy Traverse is powered by the turbocharged 2.5L I4 LK0 gasoline engine and rides on the GM C1 platform. Production takes place at the GM Lansing Delta Township plant in Michigan.

LOL,,, too bad you can’t get one. GM is fastly becoming a joke in the automotive world!
They haven’t been released yet, so of course you can’t. Nice troll though…
Yeah, their sales, awards, profits and comparison tests really show they are a laughing stock. Someone really doesn’t like GM and doesn’t do any homework on why they don’t like GM.
Well, they haven’t been released because of strike delays, epa delays and now,,, The lawsuits against GM for shift to park software failures. Its almost MAY 2024, who wants a new 2024 vehicle that is already 5 -6 months old,,,,,AT a premium price. You can’t even go to a dealer and see one up-close or test drive the new engine! SO,,,, as a person who has done his,, “HOMEWORK’,, and is/was a diehard GM person, here’s my finding. I Drove a Lexus TX, Hyundai Palisades, Toyota Grand Highlander, KIA telluride, and all were 2024 vehicles “on the lot”. I have been to each of these dealers and was honest that I was comparing their vehicle to either a 2024 RS Traverse or GMC Acadia Denali. Every one of them laughed and stated,,”good luck”! But my patience is wearing thin waiting for GM to get their act together. So before you post a smartass reply,, know what your talking about!
I got a call yesterday from my Chevrolet dealer in GR MI. The new redesigned 2024 Traverse is on his lot and I have a deposit on it to pick it up tomorrow after its prepped. Its the Z71 model. I currently have a 2023 and trading for the 2024.
sweet, post pics pls! Congrats
Autonation has 147 listed as in transit, which would give you some indication as what has been built. I know they haven’t been released from the factory yet and are parked in a holding pen for some mysterious reason.
Poor communication from GM and its dealers.
Coming from a die-hard Ford owner, this would have been my first venture into a GM product. They are quickly losing my confidence. I am now waiting for a 2025 while looking at its competitors (Lexus GX/Toyota LC/Explorer).
Exactly my feelings too. I’m trying hard to be patient for what I “Think” I want,, (2024 RS traverse or 2024 GMC Acadia Denali),, but GM is making it hard to be patient with all the delays and zero communications. Specially while other competitors have 2024’s on the lot for sale!
Any idea when they will start shipping them?
A local dealer I’ve been keeping in touch with here in Texas told me yesterday they have 5 being delivered within 3 weeks.
Can I ask what dealership are you talking about because we need a new car and we want either the Traverse or Acadia.
It’s Cavender Chevrolet in Boerne. Go to the website and choose incoming vehicles. They have 21 of the new Traverse’s listed and are reservable. You might want to call and find out which 5 will be delivered within the next 3 weeks.
Thanks, that is a little far for us because we are in the Houston area and we’ve been in contact with Gay GMC and they have 6 Acadias coming in and they should be here in 4-5 weeks.
Why is this not in dealerships yet? It’s gorgeous inside and out. With GM bringing back PHEV’s I’d like to see a plug in hybrid version with the 2.5 liter turbo like they’ll probably due with the ICE Equinox!
GM hasn’t hit an intro date in this century. Take whatever they say and add 6 plus months. Some dealers are still waiting on 2023 Traverses. GM no longer has a clue.
It is my understanding that GM is not releasing any New Traverse yet due to a software problem with them. All of the units that are built (Thousands) will have to be updated before they can be released to dealers. Yet another blundered launch by GM. My confidence in this companies ability to build a quality vehicle is bottoming out. This is no less than the 4th failed vehicle launch just within the Chevrolet brand in the last 3 years.
Mechanically totalled faster than last one too, GM great at making everything new disposable so you have to buy something else.
Is it true customers are getting their orders first or are the dealers getting them to sell?
