GM refreshed the Bow Tie brand’s heavy-duty truck model with the debut of the 2024 Chevy Silverado HD, with new exterior styling, an overhaul of the cockpit, new tech, powertrain changes, and a new trim level. Now, GM Authority has learned the Chassis Cab configuration of the 2024 Silverado 3500 HD is no longer available to order.
The final 2024 model-year orders for the Chassis Cab Chevy Silverado HD have been received, while order books for the 2025 Chevy Silverado HD are expected to open on May 16th, 2024.
While the 2024 Chevy Silverado HD added the Chevy Silverado HD ZR2 to the lineup and brought in everything from a new front fascia and standard tow hooks for all variants to an all-new 13.4-inch diagonal infotainment screen and 12.3-inch diagonal configurable driver information center, the 2025 Silverado HD is expected to bring in an additional list of significant changes and updates.
Headlining these changes is the January 2024 unveiling of the new 2025 Chevy Silverado HD Trail Boss package. GM Authority predicted the Trail Boss was incoming and created a rendering of its likely appearance. The variant gets a handful of aesthetic and styling upgrades, plus off-road shocks and suspension along with other equipment boosting its capability on rough terrain.
Several other changes will also be rolled out with the 2025 model year. One of these is wider availability of the Front and Rear Park Assist feature (RPO code UD5), optionally offered on the WT, Custom, and LT trims and equipped as standard on the High Country. The High Country will also get Adaptive Cruise Control as standard.
As a reminder, the Silverado HD will continue to equip as standard the naturally aspirated 6.6L V8 L8T gasoline engine developing 401 horsepower and 464 pound-feet of torque. The 6.6L V8 L5P turbodiesel Duramax engine – rated at 470 horsepower and 975 pound-feet of torque – is optional. The Allison-branded 10-speed automatic transmission is mated to both engine choices.
Start of regular production (SORP) for the 2025 Silverado HD is scheduled to kick off on July 29th, 2024. Like the 2024 Chevy Silverado HD, it will be produced at the GM Flint plant in Michigan and in Crew Cab Short Bed configuration the GM Oshawa plant in Canada, while the GM T1 platform provides the bones.

So GM is giving up all of the cab-chassis business that used to be sold for use with utility beds, dump beds, flat beds, boxes, and etc.? If so, that’s another stupid move by GM to limit their sales.
Bill – that’s not the case at all. You can no longer build one for 2024 MY. 2025 MY commence production in July, and certainly the cab and chassis will be available to order for 2025. This is common practice for GM and Ford at least.
