Refreshed 2025 GMC Yukon Denali Spotted Testing Again

General Motors is refreshing its full-size SUVs for the 2025 model year, and that includes the GMC Yukon. GM has already pulled the covers on the refreshed 2025 Chevy Tahoe and 2025 Chevy Suburban, but for the moment, the refreshed 2025 GMC Yukon is still under wraps. Now, we’re getting an early look at the refreshed Yukon Denali thanks to the following GM Authority spy photos.

This isn’t the first time we’ve seen the refreshed 2025 GMC Yukon Denali out and about as a camouflaged prototype – in fact, we’ve been covering the forthcoming update for years now. This time, we’re getting another glimpse of what’s to come hiding underneath some mottled black-and-white camo, plus Downpour Metallic paint (paint code GXP), a new color for the 2025 model year.

Per tradition, the refreshed 2025 GMC Yukon is expected to introduce restyled lighting, including new C-shaped lighting signatures with LED lighting elements, similar to the GMC Sierra EV and refreshed, ICE-based GMC Sierra. The fog lights will be reworked as well, as will the iconic Denali grille.

The side view shows camouflaged, multi-spoke wheels, with new designs definitely making the cut. Sizing will likely measure out at 24 inches in diameter. Up top, we notice a new roof-mounted comms fin above he driver’s side door, which will support a 5G connection and the latest tech features.

Moving into the rear, the 2025-model-year refresh will incorporate a redesigned rear quarter panel, rear bumper, and hatch, with new taillight housings to boot. Lower in the bumper, this prototype is running a quartet of exhaust pipes with a squared design.

The updates will continue into the cabin with new infotainment goodies, such as a pair of huge screens, per previously GM Authority coverage. The new Yukon will include a horizontal screen behind the steering wheel and a portrait-style screen on the center stack, once again mirroring the GMC Sierra EV. Notably, there will be no difference in the screen layout between Denali and non-Denali trims, as is the case currently.

Under the hood, expect Denali trims to offer the same naturally aspirated 6.2L V8 L87 gasoline engine equipped by the pre-fresh model, with the 3.0L I6 LZ0 turbodiesel Duramax engine offered as a replacement for the current 3.0L I6 LM2 turbodiesel Duramax. The naturally aspirated 5.3L V8 L84 will be offered elsewhere in the lineup.

The refreshed 2025 GMC Yukon is set to arrive this year.

      1. It’s a beautiful vehicle just like it is. I know every vehicle can’t stay the same forever but this one, in my opinion, could stay that design, as long as the Toyota 4 runner. The grill, the lights are stunning on this vehicle. The taillights needs to be redone but are beautiful. On the inside, I would only change that gear shifter and put it back on the steering wheel column. The steering wheel, I would not mess with because it gives you that feeling that you are driving in a truck. The seats need to have a massage on them. Heated and ventilated needed to be a standard feature for what you pay for one of these things. They are beautiful. My dream car. I still have my 2010 Cadillac Escalade. I love this vehicle. I can’t afford one but if I could, I would have one. Best vehicle GM EVER PRODUCED!!

        1. My wife and I own a 2021 Denali and it has been just great. I really like the push and pull gear shifting layout. GM will soon be putting the gearshift lever back on the steering column but it will not be an old fashioned lever. It will be a small lever that you will push up and down for Reverse and Drive and likely pull toward you to put in Park like the Mercedes Benz cars and SUVs. It will probably be just fine unless you accidentally pull it forward while driving – the software will not allow the transmission to go into Park but the car will likely brake hard and then go into Park. I was creeping along and wanted to put my Denali into Neutral and accidentally pushed the P button. Braked hard and jerked to a stop!! Beware the portrait style screen in the middle of the dash! It will be replacing a lot of the functions we like to use knobs and buttons for. I see that as great distraction when you have to take your eyes off the road for simple things. Now I can just put my hand down and feel the large knobs for adjusting the HVAC temp and a smaller knob for adjusting fan speed. My dealer suggested that I keep my present Denali as long as I can because this screen is going to complicate driving. Sigh!!

      I disagree! but, you are probably the guy who likes the “lifted” mall crawlers that GM is releasing now in their portfolio?

      1. Lifted mall crawlers have large wheels, he doesn’t like them but prefers the smaller more functional wheels. That is the opposite of the insult you were trying to initiate… Nice try though, glad you like big useless donk wheels on your vehicles.

        My Yukon came equipped with 22″ wheels. I picked it up in Wisconsin and drove 750 miles home. With those skinny tires, I could roll over a dime and tell you if it was heads or tails that was facing up. I swapped the 22″ wheels for 18″ wheels. The tire diameter remained the same. The ride quality, from both a comfort and noise perspective, is significantly improved. With regard to comment about liking “lifted” mall crawlers, I am not that guy. I’m the guy who favors performance over aesthetics. If I can have both in one package, all the better, and I have achieved that with the change in wheels. With this change, not only do I have a comfortable ride experience for myself and my family on long road trips, but I also have the capability to take the path less chosen to enjoy all that nature has to offer…truly utilizing the FULL Utility of a Sports Utility Vehicle.

        1. I agree. There is a limit to how large the wheel diameter can get before it looks clown-like and ruins your ride. You might as well get some giant forklift tires. My Denali’s wheels are 22 inches which still gives a very comfortable ride and looks stylish. If anything, a lot of SUV’s and trucks are going to smaller wheels and 35 inch tires for that off-road look although I doubt that very many of those vehicles will ever go deep into the woods or up into the hills.

          I have 22s on my 18 Sierra Denali and found it no different from the 20s that came with it. I too also enjoy performance. GMs portfolios with these lifted trucks are a joke because hardly anyone uses them for their intended purposes. The ones I see driving around are over weight short guys who have ego problems!

          Give me a true performance truck lowered 2 inches with 24s, magnetic ride! True duals, a supercharger, and paddle shifting 10 speed transmission! Yet, can still haul 9k pounds!

  2. Agreed that the current Yukon, besides a minor interior refresh with the gear shifter and maybe a slightly larger screen, is near perfect. The current large SUVs made by GM are amazing and hold up way better than previous. The previous gen Yukon looked quite ugly IMO with parts aging poorly (headlights mainly).

    Lucky enough to drive the 2022 Yukon Denali Ultimate. I use it for hauling 7 friends, kayaks, skis, etc and constantly run out of space and need a roof box. Would not want any other car, even an Escalade.

  3. To each their own! I like big wheels. The bigger the better. The 24’s look very nice on a luxury vehicle. Now, the $100 question is??? Do these new GM SUV’s have the 6th generation small block V8’s in them? It’s been 10 years since we have had new engine with HP/TQ increases! It’s about time GM!!!
