Next-Gen Electric Mercedes-Benz V-Class Headed To The U.S.

Mercedes-Benz recently unveiled the new Mercedes-Benz V-Class and all-electric EQV, pulling the sheets on the German automaker’s latest MPV and light commercial vehicle lineup. Now, a new report asserts that the next-gen V-Class will be sold in U.S. in 2026 with an all-electric powertrain and a luxurious cabin, arriving as a replacement for the Mercedes-Benz Metris. If true, the forthcoming all-electric V-Class wouldn’t have a direct North American-market GM competitor.

According to a report from WardsAuto, which cites unnamed company officials, the EQV nameplate will get the boot in 2026, while the vehicle’s successor will launch as a next-gen, all-electric V-Class in North America. The new all-electric Mercedes-Benz V-Class will ride on the EV-dedicated VAN.EA platform, and will reportedly offer a variety of different seating configurations and wheelbase lengths. Providing motivation will be the option for either a single- or dual-motor powertrain, offering either rear-wheel drive or all-wheel drive, as well as at least two battery capacity levels. The report also indicates that U.S.-spec Mercedes-Benz V-Class models will be produced at the German automaker’s facility in Vitoria, Spain.

Meanwhile, the current V-Class, which features an ICE-based powertrain, was previously produced at the German brand’s assembly facility in Charleston, North Carolina and sold in North America as the Mercedes-Benz Metris. However, low sales resulted in the discontinuation of both models in the U.S. market following the 2023 model year. The report indicates that the current ICE-based V-Class will continue to be available outside the U.S. and Canada until the end of the decade. The current V-Class has been available in global markets since 2019.

The report follows hot on the heels of the introduction of the next-generation Mercedes-Benz V-Class and EQV, which feature a redesigned exterior and overhauled interior, plus new digital technology features. Standout features include LED lighting, widescreen interior displays, and the MBUX infotainment system.

The latest Mercedes-Benz V-Class offers both diesel and gasoline powertrain options, as well as a mild hybrid option, while the all-electric Mercedes-Benz EQV features two battery sizes (90 kWh and 60 kWh) and output up to 204 horsepower, with an all-electric WLTP range up to 365 km (226 miles).
