Nissan’s luxury brand Infiniti has released some fresh details on the all-new, next-generation 2025 Infiniti QX80 full-size luxury sport-utility vehicle, which is scheduled to be revealed on March 20th. Among the new info is the new powertrain used to motivate the SUV.
The 2025 Infiniti QX80 drops the 5.6L V8 gasoline engine developing 400 horsepower at 5,800 rpm and 413 pound-feet of torque at 4,000 rpm in favor of a new twin-turbo V6, as the following comparison table shows.

The new twin-turbo 3.5L V6 gasoline engine provides maximum output of 450 horsepower and 516 pound-feet of torque, replacing the V8 that has been the standard powerplant for every model year for the past two QX80 generations. GM Authority is comparing the Infiniti’s engine and its specs to that of its closest competitor from General Motors, the Cadillac Escalade.
Where the 2025 Infiniti QX80 cradles a single engine choice under the hood, the 2024 Cadillac Escalade offers three different options. These include the naturally aspirated 6.2L V8 L87 gasoline engine developing 420 horsepower and 460 pound-feet of torque, the 3.0L I6 LM2 turbodiesel Duramax engine rated at 277 horsepower and 460 pound-feet of torque, and the supercharged 6.2L V8 LT4 gasoline engine rated at 682 horsepower and 653 pound-feet of torque that is equipped as standard in the 2024 Cadillac Escalade-V.
The new power figures show the 2025 Infiniti QX80 outperforming many comparable full-size luxury SUVs. The supercharged V8 LT4 of the Cadillac Escalade-V cranks out more than 200 additional horsepower and almost 140 more pound-feet of torque than the QX80, but the Infiniti SUV beats the power produced by both engine choices available on the regular Cadillac Escalade.
Notably, while the base six-cylinder powerplants in the 2024 BMW X7 and the 2024 Mercedes-Benz GLS are outperformed by the Infiniti QX80’s twin-turbo V6, the two German crossovers’ optional engines produce more power than in the upcoming QX80. The X7 M60i and GLS 580 also incorporate mild hybrid systems that temporarily add power and torque under hard acceleration. On paper, the Infiniti’s engine also serves up more power than the turbo or twin-turbo six-cylinder engines in the Jeep Grand Wagoneer the Lexus LX 600, the Lincoln Navigator and the Range Rover.
Infiniti notes that the new powertrain of the QX80 SUV not only provides impressive output numbers, but is also paired with “a 9-speed automatic transmission with a 40 percent wider gear ratio range, allowing for both responsive acceleration and efficient highway cruising.”
The company’s senior product strategy VP Ivan Espinosa says that the engine “gives you the feeling that you always have power in reserve, even while accelerating” and is “always in the right gear, delivering a powerful driving experience.”
The model’s design is based on the Infiniti QX Monograph concept car, which was debuted last summer. We’ll learn more about the 2025 Infiniti QX80 in the next few days.

So another V8 bits the dust and V6 takes its place.
If a 4 cylinder engine can power Chevy Silverado & GMC Sierra full size pickups then even the V6 is too much power for this much SUV which is much smaller & lighter than those pickups.
I’m not a big Infiniti fan, but that looks pretty good, and the new engine sounds strong. It sounds like a big improvement over the old one.
The 5.6 is a great engine. I have one that has 220k miles and have replaced starter. Would drive anywhere. Unless the ,v6 gets a major increase in gas mileage I wouldn’t want it.
