Lingenfelter Working On C8 Corvette 427 LT2 V8 Engine Build

The mid-engine C8 Corvette has been a major focus for performance shops ever since its release for the 2020 model year, and while aftermarket upgrades were at first relatively slow to appear, tuners are now offering impressive power numbers via things like superchargers and turbo kits. Interestingly, Lingenfelter Performance Engineering is approaching the power question from another angle, as well – more cubes. To that end, Lingenfelter is developing a stroker 427 7.0L engine upgrade for the 6.2L V8 LT2, throwing down with more than 700 horsepower on tap. Not bad for a mid-engine sports car.

Per a report from Motor Trend, the stroker upgrade is not exactly a simple problem to solve given the unique mid-engine packaging. As such, some clever engineering was required on the part of Lingenfelter, but the results thus far show a good deal of promise.

For those readers who may be unaware, the C8 Corvette Stingray is equipped from the factory with the naturally aspirated 6.2L V8 LT2 engine, rated at a maximum of 490 horsepower and 465 pound-feet of torque right out of the box. Upping the displacement to an even seven liters wasn’t easy, but the issue was complicated further by the fact that the engine had to retain the factory oiling system and flush-mounted oil pan, reliably run on 91 octane fuel, and play nice with the factory eight-speed dual-clutch transmission (co-developed with Tremec).

With all that in mind, Lingenfelter relied on CAD modeling and prototyping throughout the development process, yielding a unique eight-counterweight crank that works with the factory oil scraper, passages, and pan.

The stroker engine assembly also incorporates Callies 6.125-inch H-beam connecting rods and Mahle 4.125-inch pistons, as well as a CNC-machined block with larger sleeves and lifter bushings. High-flow injectors and a high-pressure fuel pump were used as well.

Putting it all together, the Lingenfelter 427 doles out 704 horsepower and 600 pound-feet of torque, exceeding the performance benchmark set by the C8 Z06 (670 horsepower, 470 pound-feet of torque from the naturally aspirated 5.5L V8 LT6). Next up, the stroked LT2 will be installed in the tuner’s test mule for track testing.

  3. Kinda puts the LT6 to shame. Too bad many race classes limit overall displacement, as this would be a way cooler way to go.

    Then there is that shop in California modding an 8.1 to go into the C8. Love to have that engine back and brought up to 5th gen small block tech

  10. 4/23/26. Just read the article about the Tremec transmission problem but that’s another story. 🙄This Engine Should be an Option with GM !!! There was the COPO CAMARO with the 632 cid Rat. Not Street Legal, initially but imagine that Rat Monster in a Mid Engine Vet !! Yeah ! Baby !!
