An allegedly intoxicated driver behind the wheel of a Chevy Silverado pickup caused a trail of destruction in a neighborhood in Canada after the truck exited the roadway and slammed into several buildings and other vehicles. The crash resulted in a Ford F-150 entering through a wall in a townhouse, forcing the occupants to evacuate the building. The driver and occupants in the Chevy Silverado were taken to a hospital with serious, but non-life-threatening injuries.
According to a report from Canadian news network CTV News, the incident occurred around 2:30 a.m. on Sunday, March 17th on Berkshire Drive in London, Ontario. Local residents report that they could hear the pickup truck traveling at a high rate of speed as it headed east down Berkshire Drive before leaving the road at Topping Lane. One resident said they heard a loud bang noise, and upon investigating, found the destroyed Chevy Silverado and three men lying injured on the ground.
Witnesses documented the Chevy Silverado’s path of destruction. After hopping the curb, the pickup traveled across a lawn, collided with a set of railings, clipped the front of a house, bounced off a parked car, and collided with a Ford F-150, punching the Ford through the wall of a townhouse.
The force of the impact destroyed a staircase inside the townhouse, and as a result, the local fire department brought in an aerial truck to evacuate a grandmother, son, and granddaughter from the upper level. Engineers were later called to the scene to assess the structural integrity of the building.
The driver and two passengers were taken to a local hospital for treatment. CTV News indicates that the 25-year-old driver was charged with failure to comply with a police officer and impaired operation of a vehicle, and is scheduled to appear in court on April 25th.
