Here’s When 2025 Chevy Express Production Is Scheduled To Start

Originally introduced way back in the 1996 model year, the Chevy Express has carried on for nearly 30 years with negligible updates. As the saying goes, if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it. The Express van will soldier on without any significant changes for the 2025 model year. Now, GM Authority has learned when production of the 2025 Chevy Express will commence.

The date of the 2025 Express’ start of regular production (SORP) is currently scheduled for October 7th, 2024. Notably, this date applies to all configurations of the Express – like the Cargo, Cutaway, and Passenger – and is subject to change at any point.

As a reminder, GM Authority recently reported that General Motors may have canceled its plans to replace the ICE-powered Express with an all-electric variant. As a result, it’s currently unclear if The General will elect to keep the Express and GMC Savana around for longer than initially expected.

Of course, GM Authority also exclusively reported that the Detroit-based automaker planned to overhaul the Express and Savana for the 2027 model year. At that time, it was believed that the next-gen vans would once again feature an ICE powertrain.

As previously mentioned, the Chevy Express is offered in multiple unique configurations, namely the Express Cargo, the Express Passenger, and the Express Cutaway, all designed to fill a specific role. Powerplant options include the naturally aspirated 4.3L V6 LV1 gasoline engine, rated at 276 horsepower and 298 pound-feet of torque, and the naturally aspirated 6.6L V8 L8T gasoline engine, rated at 401 horsepower and 464 pound-feet of torque. Notably, the previous 2.8L I4 LWN turbodiesel Duramax engine was dropped for the 2023 model year.

Regarding structure, the 2025 Chevy Express rides on the GMT 610 platform, while production occurs at the GM Wentzville plant in Missouri. Notably, the Express Cutaway is produced by Navistar at a separate facility in Ohio.

  1. This is all profit, GM knows how to milk this cow. There are a lot of repair and service businesses that only want a van with a truck platform. 30,-40,-50,- thousands a year, it is all profit, no research, engineering, developments. Just all profit.

  2. Read here they couldn’t/wouldn’t even build enough to meet demand or fill orders for the 2023 & 2024 model years. What gives? Build a few, declare low sales figures and kill it for an EV box most don’t want?

  7. This is a good very reliable van. I drove one very hard and almost NOTHING broke on it. 6 day a week, 6-8 hours a day non stop, rain or shine. Except for a flat. Delivering things. Nothing broke on it. No doors, sliding doors, and even all the gauges worked. Incredible!

Day in, day out, non stop. I was SOULED on this van ever after. Started instantly hot or cold. I only appreciated this by the fact my Ford truck had all those trouble above. Nasty troubles, tow calling troubles. Troubles I never had before in a vehicle.

  10. The reason you can’t find any vans is because, in Wentzville they are built alongside the Chevy Colorado, there is just so many of either they can build. Colorado demand goes way up, they take it out of the full size van capacity. They also still ship a bunch to northern Indiana for the conversion business.

  11. 3 years, 12 dealerships, 17 orders, 2 provinces, insane price increases, option drops and I still don’t have even 1 van. Thanks GM. Dodge, ford and Mercedes are looking great.

    1. It won’t matter, there’s no difference between 2023’s, 2024’s and even the 2025’s along with a 4.3 Liter V6 that has no update in sight either.

Jeez…I remember back when the 2019 Silverado and Sierra was Introduced, gm stated that there was going to be a major update for this Van in 2025.
      Yep, we didn’t forget that.

  12. These vans are bullet proof and are good for 500,000 miles. You can’t do that with electric.

  13. I placed an order for my customer as a 2022, then did not get picked up , then had to make it a 2023. Oh but wait need to tell my customer that there was a 4k price increase for the exact order placed . Ok the except that increase, but is upset. Still moving foward on the 2023 order. Oh wait build out is done for 23 we need to make the order now a 2024 and pricing is saying ” will advise .” And still waiting for gm to pick up the order.
Finally there is light. Order gets accepted. We get a target production week. Just to have it keep moving later in the year.
And now your saying 2025 , really?
Its just a metal van with not al lot of electronics.
