For the 2024 model year, the Cadillac XT5Â introduced a few updates, like shuffling of paint colors and the addition of three appearance packages. Today, we will take a closer look at the 2024 Cadillac XT5 towing capacities.
Before diving right in, here’s a quick overview of the luxury crossover’s drivetrain configurations. Prospective buyers have the choice between the turbocharged 2.0L I4 LSY gasoline engine, rated at 235 horsepower and 258 pound-feet of torque, or the naturally aspirated 3.6L V6 LGX gasoline engine, rated at 310 horsepower and 271 pound-feet of torque. Regardless of engine option, every XT5 model features the GM nine-speed automatic transmission as standard fare, while FWD is equipped as standard and AWD is optional.
It’s worth noting that the 2024 XT5 is also offered with an optional towing package.

As evidenced above, the lowest towing capacity for the XT5 is 1,000 pounds (454 kilograms). In contrast, units equipped with the Smart Towing Package (RPO code V92) are rated at 3,500 pounds (1,588 kilograms) of towing capability. Notably, these figures are unchanged from the 2023 XT5.
Among other towing-related information details worth detailing, The General recommends that drivers don’t tow with their XT5 during the first 500 miles (800 kilometers) of vehicle use in order to prevent damage to the engine, axles, or other parts. In addition, drivers are advised to perform an oil change before heavy towing, to not drive over 50 mph (80 km/h), and not make full-throttle starts during the first 500 miles (800 kilometers) of trailer towing. Finally, while the XT5 can tow perfectly fine in Drive, but if the driver finds that the transmission downshifts too often for their liking, they can choose a lower gear by using the manual mode.
Beyond that, there are several features and technologies General Motors recommends deactivating before pulling a trailer, including:
- Park Assist
- Reverse Automatic Braking
- Rear Cross Traffic Alert
- Rear Cross Traffic Braking
- Lane Change Alert
- Adaptive Cruise Control (unless the vehicle is equipped with trailering functionality)
- Super Cruise (unless the vehicle is equipped with trailering functionality)
As a reminder, the 2024 XT5 rides on the GM C1 platform, while production kicked off in June 2023 at the GM Spring Hill plant in Tennessee. Moving forward, production of the upcoming 2025 model year is currently scheduled to commence in July 2024.
