With the introduction of a mid-cycle refresh for the new model year, the 2024 XT4 is headlined by updated exterior styling and an overhauled cabin. With these revisions in mind, we’re taking a closer look at 2024 Cadillac XT4 towing capacities in the following GM Authority breakdown.
Before jumping right in, here’s a brief overview of the XT4’s drivetrain specifications. Under the hood lies the turbocharged 2.0L I4 LSY gasoline engine, rated at 235 horsepower and 258 pound-feet of torque. This output is directed through the GM nine-speed automatic transmission, while both FWD and AWD configurations are available.
Notably, the 2024 XT4 is also offered with an optional towing package. Tagged with RPO code V92, this feature includes a two-inch hitch receiver, a seven-wire harness and a heavy-duty cooling system.
With all that out of the way, here are the 2024 Cadillac XT4 towing capacities:
2024 Cadillac XT4 Towing Capacities
Model | Drivetrain | Turbocharged 2.0L I4 LSY
Axle Ratio | Max Trailer Weight (lbs / kg)
Luxury | FWD | 3.47 | 2,000 / 907 |
Luxury with V921 | FWD | 3.47 | 2,750 / 1,247 |
Luxury | AWD | 3.47 | 2,000 / 907 |
Luxury with V921 | AWD | 3.47 | 2,750 / 1,247 |
Premium Luxury | FWD | 3.47 | 2,000 / 907 |
Premium Luxury with V921 | FWD | 3.47 | 2,750 / 1,247 |
Premium Luxury | AWD | 3.47 | 2,000 / 907 |
Premium Luxury with V921 | AWD | 3.47 | 2,750 / 1,247 |
Sport | FWD | 3.47 | 2,000 / 907 |
Sport with V921 | FWD | 3.47 | 3,500 / 1,588 |
Sport | AWD | 3.47 | 2,000 / 907 |
Sport with V921 | AWD | 3.47 | 3,500 / 1,588 |
As seen above, the least amount of weight the XT4 is rated to pull is 2,000 pounds, which comes with units that don’t include the towing package. Meanwhile, the most capable variant is the XT4 Sport, which can tow 3,500 pounds in either FWD or AWD configurations, when equipped with the towing package.
Among other towing-related information details worth noting, the XT4’s owner’s manual suggests the use of 91 octane or premium fuel. However, if this fuel grade is unavailable, the entry-level crossover can be run on 87 octane or regular fuel, but will suffer from reduced performance and drivability. With that in mind, it’s imperative that owners use at least 89 octane gasoline when towing, or engine damage that won’t be covered by the vehicle warranty may result.
Additionally, while the XT4 can tow perfectly fine in Drive, if the driver finds that the transmission downshifts too often, they can choose a lower gear by using the manual mode.
Finally, there are a number of features and technologies General Motors recommends deactivating prior to pulling a trailer, including:
- Park Assist
- Reverse Automatic Braking
- Rear Cross Traffic Alert
- Rear Cross Traffic Braking
- Lane Change Alert
- Adaptive Cruise Control (unless the vehicle is equipped with trailering functionality)
- Super Cruise (unless the vehicle is equipped with trailering functionality)
As a reminder, the 2024 Cadillac XT4 rides on the GM E2 platform, while production commenced in April 2023 at the GM Fairfax Assembly plant in Kansas City.

Is there a dealer software upgrade to boost the horsepower of the 2.0 liter? I had an HHR SS back in the day with a dealer installed factory upgrade, putting that 2.0 L in the 300 hp range. Had terrible torque steer, but was a pretty quick car and made it a blast to drive!
What’s the difference between the v92 editions. 750 lbs less for the lower trims, shocks ? because they should be mechanically the same. Gm looking to nickel and dime u. Glad to see 3,500 lbs in a compact gm suv again. My 2018 has horrible torque steer as well, 2.0L in fact it dangerous but I love this engine.
GM identifies 2024 XT4 towing capabilities without trailer tow package (V92) however this is RXTREMELY MISLEADING as dealer response is wiring is NOT live unless trailer tow is included.
What makes this even more disturbing is dealer has told us they have no way of activating power to trailer harness on a vehicle that does not have factory V92 package
Misleading….YES.
BOTTOM LINE…XT4 has NO towing capability without lights
