Here Are Five Things We’d Like To See From The Cadillac XT6 Update

General Motors is cooking up an update for the Cadillac XT6, as GM Authority was the first to report earlier this month. Per our initial report, GM is expected to introduce the updated XT6 in the Chinese market this year, and at the moment, it’s unclear if the update will make its way to North America as well. We certainly hope that’s the case. Either way, we’re rounding up the top five things we’d like to see from the updated Cadillac XT6.

Updated Exterior Styling

First and foremost, we’d like to see the updated Cadillac XT6 present new exterior styling that brings the design in line with Caddy’s latest styling language. In particular, the front and rear ends of the crossover need a redesign, and we’d like to see the new Cadillac XT4 provide the inspiration. We even rendered what we think the updated Cadillac XT6 could look like last year, so check that out to see what we’re talking about.

Updated Interior And Tech

The Cadillac XT6’s cabin is also overdue for an update, starting with the infotainment layout. For example, we’d like to see the integration of a 33-inch infotainment screen, similar to the 33-inch screen found in the Cadillac Lyriq, a feature which could make a huge difference in the look and layout of the XT6 cabin all by itself. In addition, we’d like to see the shifter repositioned to the steering column, which could open up some significant space on the center console.

Integration Of 5G

Ditching the old 4G web connection, we’d like to see the updated Cadillac XT6 make the move to 5G – higher speeds, lower latency, and everything else needed to support a modern, connected vehicle.

More Upgraded Tech

Further tech upgrades should follow suit with the integration of the Global B electronic architecture. One of the most important tech features will be the latest version of the GM Super Cruise system with automatic lane change and the latest coverage expansions, as opposed to the more-basic system offered currently. A new stereo system would be another nice upgrade, such as with an AKG system, rather than the Bose system offered currently.

New Powertrain

This one is a bit of a question mark compared to the other updates listed above, as there are a few ways the XT6 could go when it comes to a new powertrain. One possibility is that the updated XT6 will cradle the turbocharged 2.5L I4 LK0 gasoline engine, the same powerplant found under the hood of the 2024 Chevy Traverse, 2024 GMC Acadia, and 2025 Buick Enclave. However, we wouldn’t be averse to seeing a hybrid 2.0L powerplant from GM’s Chinese portfolio, either.

For reference, the 2025 Cadillac XT6 is slated to roll off the line on July 8th, 2024 at the GM Spring Hill facility in Tennessee, as GM Authority exclusively covered previously. However, at the moment, it’s unclear if the 2025-model-year changeover will introduce the updated XT6 to the North American market.

  1. Its going to show up with 1 interior color and you pick what color seats and armrest you want. Jet Black… Light Gray or Tan.

    …lame choices.

  2. Just drop the CT5 interior in it and the drivetrain. And don’t charge 80k for it.

  3. Keep the price halfway reasonable. Hardly gonna happen. Gouging is the word of the last several years…It needs the V-6 and not the engine slated for the Traverse trio. I do like the current styling but make it unobnoxious and not with the awful styling of the Enclave or some other gotta flash Caddys inspired by South Korean flash, no doubt.

  4. Keep the V6

And, as long as I’m dreaming, a PHEV variant.

Oh… and the ability to pause live radio like I could do on any cadillac in 2014.

  5. If they make it 4-cylinder only, it’s dead to me. Beyond that, the interior has needed a refresh since it debuted. I’ve always thought the exterior, especially the front, looked pretty good. XT6 has always been much more handsome than XT5, which suffers from awful proportions and unattractive front-end styling.

  6. I hate the idea of the shifter moving to the column! It’s electronic, so there aren’t any cables. Just how much space will it free up? Also, the idea of using the CT5’s drivetrain sounds excellent!

    1. It will get the same refresh as the Cadillac XT4, inside and out, probably a little more wood in the interior + Super Cruise and i hope its gets two engines. The new 2.5 Turbo with about 330Hp + an optional plug in Hybrid version of that same engine. Lets hope Cadillac is smart and brings this revised XT6 to North America!

  7. Had a 2020 XT6. 3.6L engine in it is fine. Never could understand why cadillac didn’t offer the 2.7L turbo used in the Silverado and the CT4-V (non-Blackwing) innthe XT6. And yes the interior styling is terrible compared to other vehicles in the Cadillac inventory, or BMW, Mercedes, or Genesis.

  8. Like I said before, 3.0 twin turbo please. Then I would consider buying it.

    1. Sure for a V variant but the 2.7T would be good enough for the regular trims. Not sure why Cadillac doesn’t do V trims on the XT4, 5, or 6.

  9. I really hope they make the only engine a .05 liter 2 cylinder with 90lbs of boost…..so much prestige.
