GM Ultium-Based Honda Prologue Crossover Qualifies For $7,500 U.S. EV Tax Credit

As GM Authority has already covered, the Honda Prologue is an upcoming all-electric crossover that’s based off the same GM BEV3 platform that the Chevy Blazer EV and the Cadillac Lyriq ride on. Of course, this shared architecture means that the Prologue and Blazer EV boast many similarities, and now, one such analogous item is qualification for the full U.S. EV tax credit.

The Japanese-based automaker has announced that the Ultium-derived electric crossover will be eligible for the full $7,500 incentive. Notably, this tax credit applies to the purchase of all 2024 Prologue units built after February 26th, 2024.

Side profile of Honda Prologue.

“Having the Honda Prologue qualify for the $7,500 EV tax credit is great news for our customers,” Honda National Auto Sales, American Honda Motor Company Assistant Vice President Lance Woelfer remarked in a prepared statement. “The Prologue is stylish, sporty and priced right, hitting the sweet spot of the EV market and meeting the demand from our customers.”

Looking forward, Honda Prologue models are expected to begin reaching U.S. dealerships sometime in the coming weeks. In addition, all Prologue examples will qualify for the incentive when leased.

While Honda is gearing up to make the Prologue available, General Motors has enacted a stop-sale order on the Blazer EV that took affect back in late December 2023. While The General has reportedly been working to develop a fix for the software quality-related concerns, it had nothing to share with GM Authority when we reached out for an update in February 2024.

Interestingly, GM sent out a memo to its Chevy dealers back in mid-January 2024, informing them that a floor plan compensation program is in place. That being said, this is generally considered a normal procedure for stop-sale orders, as it helps dealerships to cover the costs of holding vehicles in inventory.

  1. So is there a stop order on theses as well. If not gm will lose a few sales to Honda for the delay. I like the Honda better, it doesn’t scream look at me.

    1. I agree, they styling of the Honda is much easier on the eyes with main-stream tasteful styling. I like that it’s not styled in the theme of 1990s Hot Wheelz toy cars, with 22″ shiny black plastic-looking wheels, and “black out” badges. I don’t see why every Chevrolet needs to resemble a Camaro, when they don’t even build the Camaro… I get it, “you can sell an old man a young man’s car, but you can’t sell an old man’s car to a young man”. However, styling vehicle’s to appeal to 17 year old males just doesn’t make sense in the world of $50k average prices. If only GM gave consumers another choice with a brand built around “excitement”….

    2. Stops are all over. Blazers are now moving forward and with price reductions. See the other article.

  2. Does anyone know why the Prologues manufactured before 02/26/24 don’t qualify for the tax credit? I bought one, and the dealer didn’t know about the limitation at the time. But the tag on the car says it was assembled in Mexico, just like the later ones. Seems purely arbitrary.
