GM To Fix GMC Sierra And Yukon Transmission Pinion Gear Issue

General Motors has released a Customer Satisfaction Program for certain units of the GMC Sierra and GMC Yukon due to an issue with a gear inside the transmission.

Tagged with CSP number N232409730, select 2023 model-year vehicles may have a condition where the pinion gears in the GM 10-speed automatic transmission have low core and surface hardness. To rectify this issue, certified GM technicians have been instructed to inspect affected vehicles and replace the transmission as necessary.

According to a GM spokesperson, there are only 326 units affected by this Customer Satisfaction Program across all the brands and models. Notably, this includes a few Cadillac and Chevy models as well.

Looking ahead, the following 2024 model year has featured a few noteworthy updates for the two GMC offerings listed above. As far as the GMC Sierra 1500 is concerned, there were changes all over, including a fresh paint color lineup, the addition of a new set of running boards via the power retractable black assist steps with LED lighting (RPO code B3L), a new Rear Seat Belt Indicator, and a bevy of handy packages. In regard to the powertrain, the Duramax turbodiesel 3.0L I6 LZ0 engine is now offered on the all-terrain-focused Sierra AT4X trim level, while the 6.2L V8 L87 is now equipped with a Dual-Model Exhaust (RPO code NPP) feature.

Moving onto the 2024 Yukon and 2024 Yukon XL, Big Red’s full-size SUVs were highlighted by fewer changes for the new model year, including the deletion of the Redwood Metallic (color code G48) paint color and expanded availability of two wheel options for the range-topping Denali Ultimate model. Of course, an all-new generation for the 2025 model year is just around the corner for the Yukon and Yukon XL, so be sure to stay updated for the latest developments.

  3. Always after the fact. I own both the 2500hd diesel and a non- diesel 1500. Solenoids, fuel pumps and transmission failures plaque my decision making. Dad always said to get it right the first time. GM says throw it at the wall and see if it sticks.

    1. CP4 fuel pump imploding and contaminating the diesel fuel delivery system with metal shavings. Hear and learn a bit about it. $15.5k repair and 4 week turn around. I wouldn’t comment on plug and play DIY projects like your example.

  4. It’s not just that year GM has a class action lawsuit for GMC’ trucks 2011-2016 Transmission are going out and trucks not even making it to 60k. I am a victim in this and I am in on this suit. It’s sad they don’t want to fix any of them.

    1. My husband had that same issue with our 2016 and 3 weeks later the transmission went out. There is a class action lawsuit for this as well. We are waiting now on our truck to be repaired. It cost us $6200 it sad because GM wouldn’t do anything and my husband only has 62k on the dash

  7. I have a 2015 GMC Sierra 4×4 and my transmission went out as well. I took it to a dealership and they replaced the transmission with a new one and it cost me $11,000 for parts and labor. I also had to replace the AC condesor, which is know to crack on the drivers side as well. Alot of the GM vehicles have been having transmission and condesor issues and GM still hasn’t issued a recall. I have been buying GMC vehicles for the past 20 years and I think im about to switch to something else. Can anyone send me a way to join the transmission lawsuit? I sure would like some of my $11,000 transmission money back. My email is [email protected].

    1. Gm waits to fix the all ready known problems at the factory, then just sends out to dealers to try to fix but doesn’t have the talent in mechanics so it just keeps on going, sell it buy a Toyota

  8. They need to make a 3/4 ton Yukon so it can tow more!! And make the 3.0l diesel fit the AT4 Yukon already! Those are the only reasons that I would want to even consider trading in my 2021 AT4 Yukon for. I’ll be keeping this one for ever!
