GM sports car sales decreased in the United States and Mexico but increased in Canada during the fourth quarter of 2023.
GM sports car sales are comprised of the Chevy Camaro muscle car in either coupe or soft-top convertible body styles, as well as the Chevy Corvette coupe and hard-top convertible.

The expanded mainstream two-door sports car segment shrank just one percent, with sales nearly flat, for 33,840 deliveries during Q4 2023, meaning Camaro sales significantly outperformed the segment average in this expanded segment.
Meanwhile, sales of the Chevy Corvette continued to dominate the premium sports car segment among 11 entries during the fourth quarter of 2023 when ranked by sales volume, as they have for over a dozen years now since we started tracking Corvette sales.
As we’ve noted, many segment contenders cost significantly more than Chevy’s mid-engine sports car. As a result, these higher-priced rivals typically see lower sales volumes. However, that price difference is steadily shrinking, especially as pricing for the Corvette C8 Z06 and Corvette C8 E-Ray start at over $110K, and the “base model” Corvette C8 Stingray now rings in at just under $70K.

The premium sports car segment shrank five percent to 14,854 units in Q4 2023, so Corvette sales slightly outperformed the segment average.
Looking Ahead
The last Camaro has been built due to faltering sales and notable missteps, and perhaps accelerated by GM’s renewed commitment to go fully electric by 2035.
Yet, C8 Corvette sales continue to command its segment as the mid-engine Corvette is in its fifth model year, with demand for the C8 range still outpacing supply. As some competitors keep offering potential challengers, it’s a wait-and-see proposition, as the Vette’s segment share this quarter was its highest so far. Meanwhile, other competitors are dropping out, such as the Audi R8, which has ceased production largely due to poor sales and the discontinuation of its engine.
About Chevrolet Camaro
The 2024 Chevy Camaro arrived as the ninth and final model year of the sixth generation, featuring a pair of special-edition variants. These include the 2024 Chevy Camaro ZL1 Garage 56 Edition, as well as the 2024 Chevy Camaro Collector Edition, both of which offer their own unique content and varying levels of exclusivity to pay homage to the first-gen Camaro’s internal program code of “Panther.” The Collector Edition was offered on all trim levels, but only the ZL1 could be ordered with Panther Black Matte paint, the first matte paint option ever offered on the Camaro.
Final units of the Camaro Convertible were produced on November 22, 2023, and the last Camaro Coupe was built on December 14, bringing production of the muscle car’s sixth generation to an end without an ICE successor in the works. At least for now, 2024 marks the end of the Bow Tie brand’s muscle car.
GM built a total of 1,335 units of the 2024 Chevy Camaro Collector Edition.
“Camaro is a passion product,” a Chevy spokesperson said of the end of the Camaro, noting that “it has developed a fan base across the world and has brought people into Chevrolet dealerships for generations.” In summary, “the sixth generation specifically represented athleticism and composure – exuding confidence on the road and dominance on the track.”
Recently, Hendrick Motorsports debuted a 40th Anniversary Edition of the Chevy Camaro, which will be sold exclusively through select Hendrick Automotive Group Chevrolet dealerships to add yet another special variant as the iconic muscle car sunsets.
Looking forward, GM has confirmed a next-generation Chevy Camaro to keep the nameplate alive, but we don’t know when we’ll see it. Global Chevrolet Vice President Scott Bell stated, “While we are not announcing an immediate successor today, rest assured, this is not the end of Camaro’s story.”
The Camaro name may not be applied to a single model but to a broader EV sub-brand. Some of the models would likely resemble the familiar Camaro with coupe and convertible variants, while others might be sporty two-door and four-door crossover SUVs, with a mid-priced sports car as the brand flagship.
About Chevrolet Corvette
The 2024 Chevy Corvette is offered in three variants – the C8 Stingray, the C8 Z06, and the first-ever C8 E-Ray. It adds new active safety tech to its features list to align it more with other Bow Tie brand models.
At the beginning of the year, GM debuted the first-ever 2024 Chevy Corvette E-Ray, featuring the naturally aspirated 6.2L V8 LT2 engine from the Stingray mated to an electric motor mounted up front. The E-Ray is also the first-ever production Corvette equipped with front-wheel drive and all-wheel-drive traction.
That combination also makes the E-Ray the fastest-accelerating Corvette ever, with a 0-to-60 mph time of just 2.5 seconds, a tenth of a second quicker than the C8 Z06.
The Corvette Z06 features the 5.5L V8 LT6 gasoline engine, a race-bred, naturally aspirated, dual-overhead cam, flat-plane-crank powerplant.
Once Z06 production is higher than the current, highly constrained levels, and the E-Ray has finally launched, Chevy will launch the 2025 Chevy Corvette ZR1. It’s expected to be powered by a boosted variant of the 5.5 V8 LT6 engine found in the Z06, raising the performance bar even higher. Our spies spotted a 2025 Corvette ZR1 prototype testing on the Nurburgring, revealing differences between the ZR1 and Z06 with the Z07 package and sporting a new wheel design.
GM Authority has learned that GM showed Chevy dealers the C8 Corvette ZR1 during a secret meeting late last year along with the all-new 2025 Chevy Equinox, which was officially unveiled in January. Along with fans worldwide, we eagerly await the impending reveal of the Bow Tie brand’s new track-destroying supercar.
As we await the inevitable transformation of the Corvette nameplate going all-electric, and current mid-engine gas-powered models launched so far are still naturally aspirated, all future Corvette C8 variants will feature forced induction, starting with the ZR1.

My 1976 Rally Sport Camaro had matte black roof and hood
Vast majority of Camaro buyers are not Corvette buyers. Another market segment neglected and given up by lower case gm again. Meanwhile Mustang gets constant upgrades and Charger will have a new chassis that can be used for ICE (a coupe) or EV. No interest in a family of EV Camaros by Camaro owners ( Have owned a 75 RS, and a new 79 Z28, bought son new 17 RS). GM, home of pickups, SUV’s, Cue’s, and Corvette. Malibu, CT4, & CT5 on death watch also.
And no interest in a Camaro SUV either! C’mon Mary cut the sh!t !!!
Corvette outsold the discontinued Camaro. More big news, geeez!
Still waiting for my 2024 LT1 Convertible 6 speed to be built…………..
I would’ve never thought a vehicle currently in production would ever outsell a vehicle that has been discontinued. This is high level journalism here, folks! C’mon.
Hahahahaha. Such POWERFULL and EXACTING Journalism. Who’d a thought a NEGLECTED & DISCONTINUED FANTASTIC Sports Icon could be outsold by a Vehicle STILL IN PRODUCTION. Awesome work in your reporting guys. GET YOURSELVES A STAR OUT OF PETTY CASH ON THE WAY OUT.
camaro’s don’t sell because…..
GM does not build them any more.
Last time I saw a new Camaro SS or Zl1 on a car lot was 7years ago.
