GM electric vehicle (EV) sales increased 19 percent to 19,305 units in the United States during the fourth quarter of 2023.

GM EV sales are comprised of the following seven models:

Though production of the Bolt models is officially over, a next-generation Bolt EV is planned for the 2026 model year and will be based on the Bolt EUV.

On the commercial front, the automaker launched a new business in 2021, offering an eco-system of electric products called BrightDrop. This past November, it became a part of GM, with the integration potentially saving The General a considerable amount of money. While the division builds the BrightDrop Zevo 400 and Zevo 600 commercial delivery vans, sales of these models are not included in this analysis.

During Q4 2023, the Bolt EV and EUV crossovers accounted for 3,789 and 8,762 deliveries, respectively. The Blazer EV crossover sold 463 units, and the Silverado EV full-size pickup posted 443 deliveries. As for the Hummer EV line, the Pickup posted 825 sales, and the SUV variant notched 1,203 deliveries. The Lyriq luxury crossover sold 3,820 units.

For the 2023 calendar year, GM EV sales grew 93 percent to 75,386 deliveries.

Almost 1.2 million electric vehicles were sold in the U.S. during 2023, marking a new record in EV sales. This gives EVs a 7.6 percent share of the entire U.S. market, up from 5.9 percent in the 2022 calendar year.

The fourth quarter of 2023, in particular, demonstrated strong electric vehicle sales performance, where 317,168 all-electric models accounted for 8.1 percent of the U.S. automotive market share. However, quarter-over-quarter numbers show that growth is beginning to slow down.

According to a new study, 70 percent of U.S. consumers are considering an EV even though affordability holds back many from adopting an all-electric option.

Three years ago, GM aimed for zero tailpipe emissions by 2035 from its light-duty fleet and carbon neutrality by 2040, saying it has the capability to “put everyone in an EV.”

This past October, the automaker abandoned a goal to build 400,000 EV units in North America by 2024 as it adapts to customer demands. But just a few months later, The General announced that it is still planning a fully electric vehicle lineup by 2035, with plans to build 200-300K Ultium-based EVs in North America this year in 2024. That would represent as much as four times the volume the company sold in 2023.

Despite the adjusted forecast, GM says it is still on track for the capacity to produce 1 million EVs annually by the end of 2025.

  3. The GM EV sales projected are a pipe dream, so are planned production numbers. No way 70% of the people we know are considering buying an EV. We own a Tesla and like the vehicle. However, we keep and charge it in a separated garage.

  4. All the electric vehicles on the road today and gasoline is almost $4 a gallon ! Shouldnt gas prices fall a bit because decreased demand and why does gas go up with an increase of demand like holidays ! I would go electric if i could afford it !
