The GM Global Technical Center in Warren, Michigan – which, among many other functions, hand-builds the Cadillac Celestiq luxury sedan EV – is getting a major boost in available EV charging at the site thanks to smart charging provider FLO, one of The General’s partners.
According to FLO’s announcement, the GM Global Technical Center will now feature more of its workplace EV chargers than any other single location in the USA or Canada.
The EV chargers deployed at the GM facility come from FLO’s nearby plant in Auburn, Michigan, and are built with a design that is “engineered to be durable and weather-proof.” With this batch installed, there are currently over 1,200 individual EV chargers from FLO operational at various GM sites in North America.
The electricity flowing into GM employees’ electric vehicles at their workplace is further supplied by MIGreenPower. This means it is drawn from “Michigan-made wind and solar energy” according to Tony Tomczak, one of the vice presidents of DTE Energy, a Detroit-headquartered electric services company.
The partnership between General Motors and FLO began in early 2022 with the installation of both Level 2 and DC fast chargers at 120 GM facilities. The initial batch consisted of 350 EV chargers in total, with office buildings, manufacturing plants, and fulfillment centers among the locations where the chargers were installed.
FLO, along with another charging company, EVgo, announced plans in summer 2023 to begin using North American Charging Standard (NACS) connectors in its charging network. The General also plans to build all its EVs with NACS connectors by 2025, supplying the vehicles with an adapter in the meantime to broaden network availability for drivers.
The Vice President Sustainable Workplaces and Chief Sustainability Officer at General Motors, Kristen Siemen, summed up the new EV charger installation by FLO at the Global Technical Center by saying “providing additional charging solutions at our facilities that provide energy produced by renewable technology is a win-win that we are very excited about.”

Out here in southern California area, I haven’t really seen any of the FLO chargers. There are a few on utility poles along the streets, but to use them you have to park funny and some times park against traffic in order for the cord to reach the charge port.
This first picture of an EV I saw was obvious, why is the charger port on the wrong side for curb side charging?
Is there FLO chargers around?
FLO?
Sounds like a feminine hygiene product.
I am tired of all of the “look at our charging stations that most people will never use” announcements.
