Ford Benchmarking Chevy Blazer EV RS: Photos

Competition in the various all-electric vehicle segments continues to heat up, with a deluge of new models hitting the market from all of the major manufacturers. That includes the mainstream EV passenger cars segment, where the Chevy Blazer EV and Ford Mustang Mach-E compete. Now, Ford has been caught benchmarking the new Chevy Blazer EV RS, as seen in these recent spy photos.

Ford is benchmarking the Chevy Blazer EV RS.

Spotted out on the road in Dearborn, Michigan, this Chevy Blazer EV RS is draped in Summit White paint and rides on a set of two-tone wheels, with the rollers incorporating a black and silver finish. The color combo lends the all-electric Blazer a clean look that enhances the overall shape thanks to contrasting white and black trim and body components.

Of course, benchmarking is a common practice between the major automakers. Just last year, GM Authority published photos showing GM benchmarking a Mustang Mach-E, following up on earlier benchmarking photos captured way back in December of 2021. Indeed, as the broader automotive industry transitions to all-electric vehicles, keeping pace with rivals is just as important as ever.

Looking over the latest sales figures in the mainstream EV passenger cars segment, we find the Ford Mustang Mach-E in the lead in terms of sales volume, posting 11,889 units sold during the fourth quarter of the 2023 calendar year. That’s a 4.57-percent year-over-year increase compared to the 11,369 units sold during Q4 of the 2022 calendar year. The VW ID.4 took second place with 10,634 units sold, followed by the Hyundai Ioniq 5 with 8,612 units sold and the Chevy Bolt EUV with 8,762 units sold.

Notably, the Chevy Blazer EV was dead last in its segment with a mere 463 units sold. However, the Blazer EV’s low sales can be attributed to a slow ramp-up in production, as General Motors only recently began delivering new units to dealers. It’s also worth mentioning that GM recently lifted a  stop-sale order.

  1. Chevy can catch up with Ford by keeping prices down to compete. But where is the electric Camaro?

  2. What will all these manufacturers do with all the inventory in railroad yards because nobody wants these things?
I know 2 people who have an EV out of hundreds of people in my life.
I have way too many common sense reasons why this doesn’t make sense.
I believe Toyota, Lexus and Chevrolet are in a three way tie for ugliest , totally boring designed vehicles.

  3. Even if you know “hundreds” of people, 2023 had seen 15 million new cars sold in North America alone.
1 million of those sales were EVs and that number is expected to grow to 1.5 million this year as more models go on sale.
Impressive when you consider most legacy brands only have two or three EV models max in their entire lineups and many of those models are demanding luxury prices.
