Florida Man In Stolen Chevy Express U-Haul Van Leads Police On High-Speed Chase: Video

Law enforcement in Florida managed to stop a suspect in a stolen Chevy Express U-Haul van after a recent high-speed chase down a dirt backroad. Video of the incident was captured by the dash cam of a pursuing officer and shared on the web, showing how the chase played out and eventually came to a halt after the suspect crashed the Chevy Express and was boxed in by a patrol vehicle.

The incident occurred on February 1st, 2024, around 4 o’clock in the afternoon, with Brevard County Sheriff’s Office giving out a call to assist in pursuit of a stolen vehicle headed southbound on Babcock Road.

A Chevy Express van is pursued by law enforcement.

As the pursuit entered a neighboring county, members of the Fellsmere Police Department took the lead in the chase. The driver engaged in several dangerous maneuvers, including crashing through a county sign and running multiple stops at high speeds.

The stolen Chevy Express U-Haul van was driven down S. Carolina Avenue and onto N. Broadway Street, and although the van had two deflated tires, the driver continued to push the van as far as possible, shredding the tires off the rims.

Around the one-minute, 42-second mark, we see the van drive onto an unpaved road, a large plume of dust trailing in its wake. The van gingerly makes a left-hand corner, prompting a bump from the pursuing officer. However, the driver keeps their foot in the throttle, and the chase continues at higher and higher speeds down the dusty backroad.

By the four-minute, 15-second mark, the chase is near its end, with the Chevy Express driver slamming on the brakes as they approach a T-junction. The van fails to stop in time and is pinned by the pursuing officer, who quickly exits the patrol vehicle and draws their weapon. The driver is subsequently arrested, and was later transported to jail for processing.

  1. I have seen many high speed chases over the years. I find it very interesting that it appears that a full size GM van seems almost impossible to stop. Blown tires, obstacles stuck in the wheel wells, pit maneuvers, nothing seems to be able stop these vehicles. I have admired the toughness, reliability and ruggedness of these vehicles for years. The full size GM vans are truly the best product GM has ever produced. Hopefully they will be producing them again in large quantities with no real changes to the basic design. A 4X4 option and maybe an extended roof version would be nice but please GM don’t try to reinvent the wheel like Ford and Dodge have. My two new vans with the L8T V8’s are remarkably good vehicles. Currently Advanced 4X4 in Utah is converting them to 4X4’s. Perfect.
