Dale Earnhardt Jr. will return to Bristol Motor Speedway this fall, donning a firesuit and once again stepping behind the wheel of the No. 88 NASCAR Chevy Camaro SS for the Xfinity Series race on Friday, September 20th, 2024.
Earnhardt retired from fulltime Cup Series competition upon completion of the 2017 racing season, and since then, he has competed in the Xfinity Series at least once per season, driving a Chevy race car fielded by his own team, JR Motorsports (JRM). He often drives the No. 88 Camaro, a nod to the number on the doors of his Cup Series machine in the last half of his career.
Hellmann’s Mayonnaise will appear once again on the No. 88 NASCAR Chevy, as Earnhardt recently penned a new deal with his longtime sponsor that will run through 2026. Not only will Hellmann’s support Earnhardt’s one-off Xfinity Series stints, it will also appear on the No. 7 Camaro driven by Justin Allgaier in the division. Hellmann’s and Unilever have been partners with JRM since the 2009 Xfinity season, making it one of the longest-running sponsors in a premier NASCAR division.
“We are grateful for Unilever and Hellmann’s continued support and partnership,” Earnhardt said in a press release. “They have played a huge role in our organization and our success ever since the early days of JR Motorsports, both on and off the track. They are a huge component to every part of our company, and we’re looking forward to seeing what the future holds.”
Last year, Earnhardt led 47 laps during the fall Xfinity Series race at Bristol, but he was forced to retire due to a fire that became severe enough to damage the leg of his firesuit. Earnhardt was able to exit the car safely and was uninjured in the incident, though he finished 30th. Allgaier, meanwhile, had much better luck and won the race.
