Chevy was ranked average in Consumer Reports‘ 2024 ratings, slotting in 22nd place among the 34 brands examined by the publication.
CR‘s annual brand rankings are based on a manufacturer’s average Overall Score, which is determined based on a combination of road test scores, predicted reliability and owner satisfaction data, along with safety for all of the models from each manufacturer. In order to be considered for the list, CR must have tested at least two vehicles offered by the manufacturer.
Chevy raked in a score of 62, miring it in the middle of the pack. Its road test score was 75, which really isn’t too shabby, but The Bow Tie was dinged by its average rating in both predicted reliability and owner satisfaction. It’s also worth noting that the publication recommends just two models from the pool of 12 that were tested when compiling this year’s ratings.
Chevy’s 22nd-place result puts it behind its crosstown rival, Ford, which earned a 65-point score for 17th place. It did outperform Dodge’s 25th-place performance by a single point, and tied with Volvo and Chrysler for 62 points. Compared to its siblings under the GM umbrella, Chevy tailed Buick in 13th (69) and Cadillac in 14th (68), but outdid GMC, which ranked near the bottom of the list in 31st (53).
Meanwhile, the highest-ranked brand overall was BMW with 82 points, while Jeep fared the worst, coming in 34th with 46 points.
Despite a lackluster result in the overall ratings, it’s not all doom and gloom for Chevy. Several Bow Tie nameplates have been commended for decent predicted reliability, such as the Chevy Equinox, the Silverado HD 2500, the Chevy Trailblazer and the Chevy Corvette. In fact, the Corvette repeatedly tops the “most satisfying vehicle” charts and is hailed as one of the best vehicles tested by CR.
