It’s annoying to miss a turn, especially if it means losing a few minutes to backtrack. However, pulling a U-turn is a much better idea than attempting to cross multiple lanes of traffic to make the corner. Unfortunately, the driver in the Toyota RAV4 featured in the following video attempts the latter strategy, resulting in a T-bone collision with a Chevy Equinox.
Video footage of the incident was recently posted to social media, and it appears as though the collision occurred in Florida. The video was caught by the dash cam of another motorist following the Chevy Equinox, and shows the whole thing play out at an intersection.
The video opens to show a sunny, bright morning, with some traffic moving along at a quick pace. The camera car follows the Chevy Equinox in the left lane at around 55 mph, with the rest of the traffic moving at roughly the same speed.
As the cars approach a stoplight, we see a Toyota RAV4 start to cross left multiple lanes of traffic from the right lane. Although it’s not totally clear, the move is likely the result of a missed turn on the part of the Toyota driver. Unfortunately, the Toyota driver failed to accurately calculate the speed and distance of oncoming traffic.
The Chevy Equinox driver barely has any time to hit the brakes before the side of the RAV4 fills their windscreen. The hit looks substantial, pushing the doors of the RAV4 into the cabin while shoving the Toyota up onto the grass of the dividing island. The side curtain airbags in the Toyota deploy.
It’s unclear if anyone was injured in the collision, but the severity of the impact certainly makes it appear as though it’s a good possibility. Either way, the lesson here is clear – just flip around at the next light.
