Competitive Sales Comparison (USA)
Chevy Blazer EV sales continued through only its second quarter during Q4 2023, joining an ever-growing list of entries in the mainstream electric vehicles (EV) passenger segment.
The Bow Tie brand’s all-electric mainstay, the Chevy Bolt family, saw a year-long upward trajectory come to an end as competitor deliveries charged ahead. Bolt family sales fell for the first time since Q1 2022 with a 22 percent slide to 12,551 units and a combined 19 percent segment share, accounting for about a fifth of all segment deliveries, with the duo still outselling the bigger, pricier Ford Mustang Mach-E. On an individual basis, the Bolt EUV (see running Bolt EUV sales) took fourth with a 22 percent dip in sales to 8,762 units, while the Bolt EV (see running Bolt EV sales) placed sixth, also down 22 percent, but to 3,789 units.
The Ford Mustang Mach-E (see running Ford Mustang Mach-E sales), individually, led with a five percent uptick to 11,889 units, followed by the Volkswagen ID.4 in second with a 162 percent leap to 10,634 units, and the Hyundai Ioniq 5 crossover in third with a 92 percent jump to 8,612 units. The Ioniq 6 sedan placed fifth with 4,681 deliveries. The Kia EV6, the Ioniq 5’s corporate cousin and platform mate, placed seventh with a 39 percent bump to 4,081 units, while the Nissan Ariya placed eighth with 3,765 deliveries. The Subaru Solterra took ninth with a 238 percent leap to 3,109 units, followed by the related Toyota bZ4X in 10th with a 189 percent jump to 2,843 units. The Solterra and bZ4X were developed jointly and share the same platform. Nissan’s other entry here, the dated Leaf, saw sales drop 57 percent to 1,348 units. The two youngsters on the list are the Kia EV9, which moved 1,118 units, as well as the Chevy Blazer EV (see running Chevy Blazer EV sales), which recorded 463 deliveries.

The Blazer EV earned a one percent market share in its segment. The Bolt EUV posted a 13 percent share, while the Bolt EV held a six percent share, for a combined 19 percent share to outpace the Mustang Mach-E, which posted an 18 percent share. The ID.4 earned a 16 percent share, and the Ioniq 5 posted a 13 percent share. The Ioniq 6 held a seven percent share, while the EV6 and Ariya both posted a six percent share. The Solterra earned a five percent share, followed by the bZ4X with a four percent share. The Leaf and EV9 each held a two percent share.

All three Chevy models compete in the mainstream electric vehicles (EV) passenger cars segment, in which we currently include all mainstream (non-luxury) BEVs, including crossovers, hatchbacks, and sedans. As more EVs enter the market, there will be enough similar vehicle types competing against each other to warrant a specific segment. We will break these out at that time for more specific sales comparisons. Beyond the mainstream EV segment being discussed here, the remaining EV segment is the premium EV market that contains models from Tesla, Audi, Porsche, BMW, Mercedes-Benz, Lucid, Cadillac, Jaguar, and Genesis. Accordingly, we are not including Tesla models in the mainstream EV passenger car segment sales analysis since they are considered premium/luxury models.
It’s also worth noting that Hyundai and Kia offer EV models that also include variants with an internal combustion engine (ICE) and/or hybrid (HEV) and/or plug-in hybrid (PHEV) version. That includes the Hyundai Kona, Hyundai Ioniq (without a number), and the Kia Niro. Consequently, these models do not compare directly to the Chevy Bolt family. As a result, these particular Hyundai and Kia models are no longer included in our analysis. A related Hyundai model, the similarly named Ioniq 5, is all-electric, effectively replacing the original Ioniq. While the Ioniq 5 is a crossover, the similarly named Ioniq 6 is an all-electric sedan.
The GM Authority Take
Even before Chevy Blazer EV sales began, now in its second quarter, the all-electric midsize crossover was named 2024 MotorTrend SUV of the Year, with the publication saying that the 2024 Blazer EV is “easy to drive, easy to live with, easy to use,” offering a “fiery” design with real “swagger.”
The Chevy Blazer EV was also named to NACTOY’s “Best of 2024” list, being among the 25 vehicles advancing to the finalist round of the 30th annual North American Car, Truck and Utility Vehicle of the Year Awards and one of 10 semifinalists for 2024 North American Utility Vehicle of the Year.
When the much-anticipated Chevy Blazer EV SS arrives, we expect sales to really take off if GM can build units as fast as it accelerates.
Fortunately, the Chevy Blazer EV inventory appears to be rising. As of mid-November, 287 units of the all-electric crossover had been delivered in the United States thus far, with 1,205 more units arriving at dealerships prior to the end of November, with at least 4,000 units of the Blazer EV either on the ground or en route, according to the inventory search tool on Chevy’s website. On December 1st, GM officially reported the first Chevy Blazer EV units built In Mexico at the GM Ramos Arizpe plant after months of production ramping up. The first batch of 6,127 Blazer EVs came off the assembly line in October as the team there was building 65 Blazer EV units per hour back in July.
Potentially impacting sales to start off the year is a Chevy Blazer EV stop-sale order, issued in January, which was still in effect in February as GM worked hard to resolve software issues. GM released a software update for the 2024 Chevy Blazer EV in mid-March. Consequently, certain units of the Blazer EV affected by the recent stop-sale order will be released from the order following the implementation of this latest software update.
Despite teething issues for the first-ever Chevy Blazer EV, we look forward to following the performance of Chevy Blazer EV sales. Meanwhile, while we wondered whether the internal combustion-powered Chevy Blazer had a future, we’ve learned there will be a 2025 Chevy Blazer in North America even though the GM Ramos Arizpe plant was initially set to produce only EVs by 2024.
The Chevy Blazer EV and its smaller sibling, the upcoming Chevy Equinox EV, are entering the largest EV segment on the market with interesting expected demographics.
About Chevrolet Blazer EV
In July 2022, the 2024 Chevy Blazer EV made its official debut, ushering in the Bow Tie brand’s mass-market midsize battery-electric crossover. Headlined by a maximum GM-estimated range of 320 miles from a full charge, the Chevy Blazer EV will be available in front-, rear- and all-wheel drive configurations, while the trim level lineup will include 1LT, 2LT, RS, and Blazer EV SS, along with a Police Pursuit Vehicle (PPV) model for law enforcement, making it the quickest police package ever offered by Chevy.
The first two trim levels on sale are the Chevy Blazer EV 2LT AWD and RS AWD, but the upcoming RS RWD will include a higher capacity battery pack than these trim levels.
The GM Super Cruise advanced semi-autonomous driver assist system will also be available on the new Blazer EV.
The Bow Tie brand is even bringing a Super Sport model with the first-ever 2024 Chevy Blazer EV SS. A standard performance AWD propulsion configuration delivers up to 557 horsepower and 648 pound-feet of torque in the crossover, enabling a zero to 60 mph time of under four seconds in the Wide Open Watts (WOW) acceleration setting. Additional performance-focused features include a specific sport-tuned chassis and Brembo front brakes.
On a side note, the Chevy Blazer EV doesn’t include free home charging station installation like select buyers of the Chevy Bolt EV and Bolt EUV get.
Production of the 2025 Chevy Blazer EV is currently scheduled to kick off on June 3rd.
On the competitive front, the Rivian R2 was revealed as a potential Chevy Blazer EV rival, with the new SUV being the all-electric startup’s third passenger vehicle. The 2026 Rivian R2 follows the R1T pickup and R1S SUV and offers an off-road-oriented attitude and upscale approach, all with a smaller footprint than the two preceding Rivian models. The Rivian R2 will launch during the second half of the 2026 calendar year.

463….WOW!
Totally worth not having a 7 gen Camaro for this, so much winning…..
Pretty impressve, that a little over 1 Blazer EV sold across a 10-state area everyday! Thats “future of the company” style volume right there! Way to go Mary! Woo Hoo!
463…Hilarious! They could bring the Chevette back and beat those numbers.
Count me in, I’d put my order in today for a new Chevette! Make mine a Scooter trim.
If GM would lower the price to $25k, they could move 700 or 800 of these.
