Competitive Sales Comparison (USA)

Cadillac Lyriq sales during the fourth quarter of 2023 kept the battery-electric crossover in second place from last quarter in the electric luxury D-crossover segment when ranked by sales volume. The Tesla Model Y continues to outperform all contenders in this space, posting a 59 percent jump in sales for a whopping 100K-plus deliveries, or 101,400 units, specifically. The Cadillac Lyriq (see running Cadillac Lyriq sales) followed in second place with 3,820 deliveries. The Audi Q8 e-tron took third with 2,925 deliveries, with the Lexus RZ close behind in fourth with 2,875 sales, followed by the Jaguar I-Pace in last moving 178 units.

The electric luxury D-crossover segment grew 74 percent to 111,198 units during Q4 2023, primarily due to growth posted by the Tesla Model Y but with the Lyriq contributing as well.

The GM Authority Take

Cadillac Lyriq sales showed very healthy gains once again, thanks to a continuing ramp-up in production. Since launch, Q4 2023 sales marked a new high for Lyriq quarterly results in the U.S. market. Inventory improved substantially in January, with a 100-day supply available for the Cadillac Lyriq. For 2023 overall, 9,154 units were sold for the year. This quarter also marks the first Lyriq delivery in Mexico.

Furthermore, the Cadillac Lyriq conquest rate is now running at over 40 percent, meaning that nearly half of Lyriq buyers are those who have previously purchased a vehicle from another competing automaker.

Meanwhile, the Tesla Model Y posted over 100K deliveries for Q4 2023 alone and 385,900 units sold for the year.

About Cadillac Lyriq

Introduced for the 2023 model year, the Cadillac Lyriq stands as the luxury marque’s first-ever all-electric vehicle.

The 2024 Cadillac Lyriq arrives with several important changes and updates. Among these is the introduction of the new Tech and Sport trim levels, with the Luxury trim level slotting between those. Furthermore, the 2024 Lyriq Luxury 3 and Sport 3 are now available with 20-inch wheels. All three trims are available in the U.S. with either rear-wheel- or all-wheel drive.

The 2024 Cadillac Lyriq is the first GM vehicle in North America to feature 5G network connectivity, standard on all trim levels. The 2024 Lyriq also gets a new power panoramic dual-panel sunroof along with a newly available Nappa Leather seating package, which is genuine leather made from calfskin or other types of soft cowhide, and a new trailer hitch.

Also expected for 2024 is the Cadillac Lyriq-V, a performance-focused variant with more power, more aggressive styling, and standard all-wheel drive. We also expect the V-Series model to bring upgraded suspension and brakes, plus unique badging.

Regardless of the trim level selected, the 2024 Cadillac Lyriq maximum range-per-charge is 314 miles for rear-wheel-drive models, with motor output set at 340 horsepower and 325 pound-feet of torque. All-wheel-drive models deliver a maximum range of 307 miles per charge, with motor output set at 500 horsepower and 450 pound-feet of torque. Additionally, the 2024 Lyriq AWD offers a new Velocity powertrain upgrade, boosting torque by 74 pound-feet, raising the peak rating from 450 pound-feet to 524 pound-feet. GM asserts that the zero to 60 mph time improves from the standard AWD variant’s 4.7 seconds to 4.4, trimming 0.3 seconds off the acceleration time. The 2023 Lyriq AWD will eventually be eligible for the Velocity upgrade.

The all-electric luxury compact crossover rides on the GM BEV3 platform, while GM Ultium batteries pair with GM Ultium Drive motors for motivation.

  1. Please stop the inclusion of the Tesla Model Y in these comparisons because it is NOT a luxury electric. It is very spartan and has no attractive features inside.

  2. I guess they fixed the software bug!? Doesn’t the Lyric run the same software as the Blazer? Ok the Cadillac lyric V ludicrous speed edition so it can go plaid and compete with the Tesla model x plaid…is that a luxury vehicle GM owner I think they are comparing prices between the model X and Cadillac Lyric not “luxury” or the fact that they share a similar shape or something like that.

Cadillac Lyriq most definitely does not compete with the Model X at all. It also is an unfair comparison to the Model Y as that vehicle is smaller and much cheaper.

The upcoming Optiq hopefully matches the Model Y in price and performance.

Cadillac is going to have at least 4 SUV BEV’s to Teslas Three (They have an upcoming lower priced vehicle)

Momolos thank you a positive comment is nice every now and then and yes I think Cadillac should continue what it’s doing it seems like a good idea I am not a Tesla fan I just wish that people would stop acting like Tesla is the best because they are not they where first but that does not mean the best.

I am actually very hopeful that GM will figure it all out with their BEV programs but man do they make it difficult to believe sometimes HaHa

          1. @Momolos I hope GM figures out the Blazer EV mess. I think they saw the light a little bit because they said they are going to build Hybrids as well as EV, a hybrid Cadillac would be nice so would an Silverado and equinox hybrid. As far as believing they are in to much of a hurry to sell their new EV models this technology is newer yet I don’t care what they tell something on this scale takes time.

  3. While this is great news to hear and look forward to GM working out the bugs and succeeding in the EV field as a legacy automaker, there is one trend that is concerning me when it comes to the Lyriq. I’ve seen a handful of these roaming the streets of Manhattan. And they sport livery plates on them. Now this may not mean anything since there are many Teslas being used as Ubers, rideshares (many Model Y Revels), and even the famous NYC yellow cabs many which are currently Toyotas but increasingly seeing Teslas too, it does concern me in the sense of how many of those are fleet vehicles instead of customers actually showing interest in the brand. Although the article does say many customers are new to the brand so that’s a good sign.

  4. I was just in my first one in Manhattan yesterday…a Lyft. I liked it, pretty comfortable in back. Not as airy as a Model Y, but a much nicer ride and the space seemed very competitive. Interesting to see whether the ride business will be a real significant source of volume for the Lyriq…it’s a market Cadillac has a lot of experience in.

    1. Rocco: Most of the cars on dealer lots are there because GM decided to first produce the lowest level trims in limited colors. Now, people like me are refusing orders that they have been waiting for over 18 months and more and are buying the higher trim levels in other than back or silver.

Most legacy car makers when they introduce a new model, start out with a mix of mid level and higher trims and then adjust the number of lower level trims once they have an idea of what is selling and what buyers are asking for.

Some genius at Cadillac/GM decided to do it bass ackwards and as a result the dealers are stuck with base trims of a luxury car.

If Cadillac/GM had set out to do the most fubar rollout of a new model possible, they could not have done a better job.

Great car – terrible management planning.

  6. Irrespective of some negative comments here, nationwide sales of the LYRIQ are fairly impressive for a new model….

I’m agreed that the vehicle represents an Excellent Value – especially those who could snag a 2023 model.

I bought mine since its a GM, a car company that with most models tries to produce a reliable product…. Ford on the other hand has the most recalls of any car company….. Whatever happened to “Quality is Job #1”?

So things that you worry about with any vehicle, like rust through, or drive train troubles, are much less likely in a GM product….

Seeing as Ms. Barra has discontinued high volume VOLTS (and the related Caddy ELR), and both BOLT EV and EUV models, the fact that the LYRIQ is selling well makes me wonder when it is on the chopping block?

Enjoy this very nice vehicle while it lasts.
