Competitive Sales Comparison (USA)

Cadillac CT4 sales during the fourth quarter of 2023 placed it essentially last again, only sitting above two discontinued models in the small luxury car segment when ranked by sales volume. The Acura Integra remained at the top, as it has for over a year now, with a four percent uptick in sales to 7,256 units. The BMW 2 Series, made up of two mechanically distinct models – the two-door Coupe and four-door Gran Coupé – followed in second place with an 81 percent jump to 4,297 units, while the Audi A3 placed third with a nine percent bump to 2,997 units, and the Mercedes-Benz CLA-Class took fourth with a 43 percent drop to 1,966 units. The CT4 (see running Cadillac CT4 sales) finished out the list with a 17 percent slide to 1,805 units. At the same time, the discontinued Mercedes-Benz A-Class posted just seven deliveries, and the discontinued Acura ILX had none, having been replaced by the aforementioned Integra.

From a segment share standpoint, the CT4 earned a 10 percent share, down two percentage points year-over-year. The Integra led again with a dominant 40 segment share, up one percentage point to account for two-fifths of all sales. The 2 Series earned a 23 percent share, up a segment-best 10 percentage points for nearly a quarter of sales, while the A3 held a 16 percent share, up one percentage point. The CLA-Class posted an 11 percent share, down segment-worst eight percentage points.

The small luxury car segment (luxury C-segment) was nearly flat, with just a one percent bump in sales to 18,328 units in Q4 2023, meaning CT4 sales significantly underperformed the segment average.

The GM Authority Take

Cadillac CT4 sales remained in essentially last place again during the fourth quarter of 2023, only outselling the two discontinued models that moved seven units. The small luxury sedan continues to be outperformed by all-new models from key rivals, with the all-new Acura Integra being the chief one. Adding insult to injury, the 2024 Acura Integra Type S high-performance variant went on sale this past summer as a rival to the Cadillac CT4-V. Even the BMW 2 Series made substantial gains again, followed by the all-new Audi A3.

Overall, Cadillac’s inventory supply hasn’t helped matters much either, and the outlook for a refreshed 2025 CT4 remains uncertain. Production of the 2024 model is scheduled to end on May 30th. In fact, given the sheer number of prototype Cadillac CT5 units GM Authority has spotted, the future of the luxury marque’s smallest sedan offering doesn’t look good. Even though the CT4 plays an essential role in Cadillac’s portfolio, one wonders how much longer it can hang on, especially for a small luxury sedan that was never intended to exist in the first place.

About Cadillac CT4

The 2024 Cadillac CT4 arrives with some crucial changes and updates compared to the preceding 2023 model year. That includes a new Red Accent Package for the 2024 CT4 and the CT4-V, as well as the CT4-V Blackwing. Also, the 2024 Cadillac CT4-V Blackwing offers three new special-edition packages: Arrival EditionElevation Edition, and Impact Edition. Each 2024 CT4-V Blackwing Mondrian Edition features a numbered serial plaque.

Here is everything that’s new and different on the 2024 Cadillac CT4-V and the CT4-V Blackwing.

The Cadillac CT4 rides on the GM Alpha 2 platform, with the Luxury, Premium Luxury, and Sport trims powered by the turbocharged 2.0L I4 LSY gasoline engine. These models, which carry the 350T designation on the decklid and GM’s eight-speed automatic transmission, are rated at 237 horsepower and 258 pound-feet of torque. The turbocharged 2.7L I4 L3B and GM 10-speed automatic transmission are optional on the Premium Luxury trim; this model wears the 500T badge and makes 310 horsepower and 350 pound-feet of torque. Meanwhile, the L3B engine and ten-speed automatic transmission are standard on the CT4-V, where they’re rated at 325 horsepower and 380 pound-feet of torque. All of these variants are available in both rear-wheel-drive and optional all-wheel-drive.

The Cadillac CT4-V Blackwing runs the twin-turbocharged 3.6L V6 LF4 gasoline engine, rated at 472 horsepower and 445 pound-feet of torque. The GM six-speed manual transmission is standard, while the 10-speed auto is optional – both exclusively powering the rear wheels.

The Cadillac CT4-V Blackwing won the Car and Driver 2024 10Best award, marking the high-performance luxury sedan’s third appearance on the annual list, and recently, Consumer Reports gave the 2024 Cadillac CT4 a Recommended rating.

Cadillac ranked average in the Consumer Reports 2024 Reliability Report, though it still placed above the average dependability of U.S. automakers.

  1. None of those numbers are great even for the Integra. Compare it to SUV sales. It makes sense why many brands are ditching sedans altogether not just the Americans. VW, Mazda is practically ditching them, Nissan is canceling the Maxima, and even some brands in the EU are moving more towards crossovers than sedans. And if they aren’t eliminating them altogether they are trimming down their offerings to just a midsized and compact sedan like Toyota and Honda. Most new EVs that get introduced come out as a crossover now and rarely as a sedan. Unfortunately, I think the CUV is the new standard shape of the automobile.

  2. Sister’s 2023 with only 12K miles has been back to dealer 3 times for warranty work, (new fan motor, brakes, transmission reprogramming and now info screen is rattling very badly). She loves the car, but is tired of constant trips to the nearest dealer, a 2 hour drive and having to leave the vehicle all three times. Her previous two sedans were an Infinity and a BMW. She did not want a SUV or CUE and selection is thin.

  3. You can’t sell what you don’t make! According to Cadillac.com, there are 2 2024 CT-4s in stock in the metropolitan Atlanta area, with 5 listed as in transit. So, there are basically none to buy, and there has been no advertising, either. Furthermore, they used to be common as a loaner car, but none of those either. Very few CT4-Vs as well. There are 11 CT4-V Blackwings available in the metro area, but almost all of them are fully loaded at $86-92k, also ridiculous. I would love to get a ’25 BW myself, to get the new dash and tech, but I’m losing hope that there will even be one made. Great cars, but very poor marketing and brand management, IMHO.

  4. Maybe if they updated the interior and gave the lower trims some decent engines it would sell better. Leave it to GM to make the only RWD vehicle in this segment somehow be the worst selling amongst FWD based competition.

The 2.0 and 2.7 are unrefined and lackluster, and the interiors are low rent. The Blackwing is brilliant, but it is a halo product and not a volume seller.

  5. So they make $ on selling about 10k of these yearly across all lines from Luxury to Blackwing, but couldn’t make $ on about 30k Camaros yearly from 1LT to ZL1. They do have a lot in common. No advertising & little changes from year to year. Another car to be left to die on vine so little gm can try to justify killing it as it “no longer sells”. If full size pickups/suv sales fall, gm is dead in the water.

  6. When was the last time you saw a TV add for a CT4 let alone a CT4V or Blackwing. Cadillac is well skilled to build a great car and make sure no one knows it exists. They did it with the ATS, XLR Allante, STS for most of the years, SRX, V-Sport and more. When you make a great product you need to let people know you build more than the CT5V-Blackwing and SUVs.
