Big Block 1967 Chevy Chevelle Keeps The Essence Of The Malibu: Video

In the world of custom cars, subtlety is very much a subjective thing. Take this 1967 Chevy Chevelle – one the one hand, the rumbling Big Block V8 and brilliant turquoise paint is more than enough to turn heads on the street. However, on the other hand, the builders could have made this thing way more over the top, but a lot of the good stuff is still a little under the radar. Either way, this restomod is a stunner, as seen in the following feature video.

Once again coming to us from AutotopiaLA, this 1967 Chevy Chevelle was pieced together by Steve Strope and the folks at Pure Vision Design in Simi Valley, California. The philosophy behind the build was pretty straightforward – keep the vehicle identity intact as a Malibu, while enhancing the car’s performance and drivability, as well as adding a little custom flair to the package.

To that end, the builders retained the factory color, but added a base clearcoat for more depth and vibrancy. The original stainless and chrome elements were preserved, with a set of polished five-spoke ET3 wheels rolling in the corners to complement.

The interior continues the light-and-airy feeling with white and turquoise upholstery, as well as modern amenities like Vintage Air ventilation, Dakota Digital gauges, and a Flaming River tilt steering column.

Lifting the hood, however, we find a substantial motor upgrade. This particular V8 started as a 396 truck block, which was then bored and stroked to 511 cubic inches. Further engine upgrades include a mild cam and Weber carbs, the latter of which help to maintain the classic aesthetics.

Under the skin is a Detroit Speed front and rear suspensions setup with JRI coilovers, plus Wilwood brakes. Output is routed rearwards through a five-speed Tremec transmission.

All in all, this 1967 Chevy Chevelle sparkles and shines, and looks like it’s a real joy to drive. Check it out for yourself in the video below:

    1. Too nice of a car enduring the horrors of everyday driving on americas freeways ! That belongs in a garage only driven on nice sunny days in the country !

  2. What a beautiful ride! I like Steve’s ’64 Cutlass, too. Same build style. Tastefully done.

  3. Glad he kept the Malibu emblems as born. More “Z28’s” and “SS” Chevelles out there than Chevy ever built!

    1. Hoping the next-generation Malibu will recapture this level of sportiness.
