Australian Supercars Chevy Camaro Gets SpongeBob SquarePants Livery: Photos

SpongeBob SquarePants and friends frequently hitch rides on Chevy vehicles. In fact, a few years ago, a C6 Corvette sporting a SpongeBob and Patrick livery went viral, and the quirky cartoon even found its way to the NASCAR Cup Series circuit on the Chevy Camaro race cars of Casey Mears and Ty Dillon in 2015. SpongeBob is now turning laps in the 2024 Melbourne SuperSprint, riding along on the No. 96 Australian Supercars Camaro.

The No. 96 Brad Jones Racing (BJR) Chevy Camaro is decked out in an unmistakable bright yellow livery with SpongeBob’s grinning face taking point on the hood. Driver Macauley Jones is thrilled to represent the oftentimes overenthusiastic fry cook, having grown up watching the cartoon.

“I have fond memories of watching SpongeBob SquarePants and Patrick Star from when I was younger, I loved watching the show. But this is a whole different ballgame,” Jones said in a press release. “They say don’t meet your childhood heroes but what about putting them on your race car? In the iconic words of SpongeBob SquarePants ‘I’m ready.’”

The livery is part of a partnership between BJR and Pizza Hut. The restaurant will soon release a SpongeBob-themed menu update, which will include two new ice cream flavors, a new pizza flavor and a soft drink.

“I’m quite excited to get out on track at Albert Park, I’ve had a few decent results here in the past and the circuit is one that I genuinely like. Here’s to a good weekend,” Jones said.

Already, Jones and SpongeBob have proved that they’re the team to beat in Melbourne. Jones laid down the best laps during practice on March 21st, topping the charts with a time of 1:47.6167. So far, it’s looking like The Bow Tie brand will be on top once again on the Australian Supercars circuit, continuing its dominating performance from last year.
