The Chevy Silverado EV ushers The Bow Tie brand’s iconic pickup into the era of electric vehicles. Production of the Work Truck trim kicked off last summer, putting the electric pickup one step closer to the hands of fleet customers, and just over a week ago, dealers began taking orders for the 2024 Chevy Silverado EV RST First Edition. GM Authority has now learned when this model will enter production, and what color will be built first.
The start of regular production (SORP) for the 2024 Chevy Silverado EV RST is currently scheduled to start on April 1st, 2024 at the GM Factory Zero plant. The First Edition, which is offered in two colors, will be the first to start rolling off the assembly line. Units painted in Black (paint code GBA) will be assembled through the month of April, while those painted in Summit White (GAZ) are not expected to enter production until May.
As a reminder, there are no factory options for the Silverado EV RST First Edition outside of paint color. However, buyers are able to choose from a selection of dealer-installed accessories, such as floor mats, cargo organizers for the eTrunk and the pickup bed, a hard-folding tonneau cover, splash guards, black nameplates and wheel locks, just to name a few.
Power in the Chevy Silverado EV RST First Edition comes from a dual-motor e4WD system, which is rated at a maximum of 754 horsepower and 785 pound-feet of torque in the available Wide Open Watts (WOW) Mode, enabling a run from zero to 60 mph in less than 4.5 seconds. It offers a 400-mile driving range on a full charge, and is capable of towing 10,000 pounds, with a payload of 1,300 pounds.
The Chevy Silverado EV RST First Edition harnesses GM Ultium battery technology and Ultium Drive motors for propulsion. The GM BT1 platform provides the electric pickup’s bones.

Way to go GM lets paint the first months worth of trucks Black. The most blah, blend into the background color there is. Thats the way to get your new truck noticed out on the roads! Incredible.
Their doing what Ford did when it came to their Government Fleet Sales at least.
They need to hurry up with production so they can exceed the number of these type trucks sitting unwanted on dealer lots vs. the number of F 150’Es. Mustang E & Blazer EV sales not much to talk about. Earlier article bragged about approximately 72 K gm EV’s sold in 4th quarter. How many is this per the thousands of gm dealers and how many units sit unsold and unwanted by consumers.
GM must not expect to sell many with no options and two color choices. “Fleet” white should sell well to commercial users.
But black (so hard to keep clean) would be my last choice.
Yeah, I personally hate Black but if I wanted a High Value 2023 Caddy Luxury Lyriq (better value than the 2024s) I had to take the optional at extra cost ‘Black Metallic’ – the car’s only option.
Seems that these overpowered first releases are cutting into the mileage… I thought 450 miles was advertised – but that’s’ probably on the lower powered vehicles…. I can’t see why they don’t have a simple 2WD model that has much less complication.
The big problem with large trucks in general , and EV trucks in particular, is the Astronomic MSRP. They’d sell more if they made vehicles more customers could easily afford.
I added my name to the list when Mary Bara debuted the RST way back when..Now I’ve asked 2 different dealers if they are taking orders and they don’t seem to know what I’m talking about!…With my name already on a list, they should be calling me!….
Name on list or a $100 reservation sir?
I had the first $100 reservation in North Carolina . I was given a reservation number . When I called Gm March 1 2024 all they could tell me my truck was scheduled to be built in 2024.
It’s really a shame what the government is doing to the auto industry very sad‼️
