Brand-new units of the 2024 Chevy Colorado and 2024 GMC Canyon fresh off the assembly line were damaged during a recent hailstorm in Wentzville, Missouri. The exact number of units damaged is unknown, but GM states that the damage will be repaired before shipping to customers. Last year, thousands of units of the Chevy Colorado and GMC Canyon were damaged by hail and required repairs prior to delivery to customers.
Images recently uploaded to social media show the size of the ice balls that fell from the sky during the recent storm. According to the social media posts, the ice pictured allegedly fell just five minutes away from the GM Wentzville facility where the 2024 Chevy Colorado and 2024 GMC Canyon are produced.
GM did not specify the number of units that were damaged in the storm, nor if the pickups that were damaged were parked near the Wentzville facility, or in a nearby holding lot. However, GM has stated that repairs are now on the schedule:
“During the storms that occurred in the St. Louis metro area recently, hail damage was reported to some vehicles produced by GM Wentzville Assembly,” GM states. “These are now scheduled to be repaired and will go through our standard quality checks before being shipped to our customers.”
Shipments of the 2024 Chevy Colorado and 2024 GMC Canyon are already under way, and deliveries to customers stated at the end of February are being held by a stop-sale order, as GM Authority covered in February.
Back in May of 2023, GM Authority reported that roughly 3,300 unshipped units of the 2023 Chevy Colorado and 2023 GMC Canyon were damaged after a major hail storm swept through Missouri. Not all units were parked at the GM Wentzville plant – some were parked awaiting retrofits and / or quality control at nearby lots, including a nearby quarry. Some units of the Chevy Express and GMC Savana were damaged during the storm as well.
Although images of the damage have yet to surface, hail can cause extensive damage to vehicles, as seen in a video posted last year.

GM needs to find a priest to remove the curse from these trucks.
I worked in metal finish in Oshawa Truck and Car Assembly off and on for 3 decades. This isn’t the odd dent from a production tool or a small pimple from stamping that needs to be filed and sanded. Judging by those hailstones, how can you repair the roof unless it’s completely removed and replaced. It’s gone through it’s allotted production process and then been damaged. If this happened at the dealership once the truck was shipped it would be a hail sale vehicle. And the insurance claim to fix it would show on Carfax as a damaged vehicle. Personally I think they should be scrapped because alot of people are gonna end up with a repaired, non standard production vehicle. Would you want to pay $50,000 for a truck that had multiple metal and paint repairs due to damage? I sure wouldn’t.
I definitely would check all sources before accepting a damaged “new’” vehicle.

I’m concerned. I will look very closely when and if it ever gets here. My hope is that it’s possibly on the train to Canada as it was produced a while back. So GM doesn’t advise you of these things or is it put on car fax? I for one would not want a damaged vehicle!
Every VIN# should have to be disclosed so people can check to see if their truck was damaged. Unless GM removes the roofs and replaces every dented panel ( i.e. fenders etc.) with new painted ones this is a repaired vehicle. What’s the difference if it was done in the factory repair bay or in a body shop somewhere.

The 2024 GMC Canyon and Chevy Colorado are not on a stop sale, that was lifted. The 2023 canyons and Colorado are on a stop sale.
Yep, I finally took delivery of my ’24 WT Colorado last weekend after it sitting at the plant storage for 2+ months.
Been great so far except for the dirt in the paint….
I wonder what the repair process is. Is it panel replacement or PDR. I would be more comfortable with paintless dent repair than new panels.
A few years ago Country Hills Mercedes in Calgary lost over 100 vehicles from a storm. The hail took out sunroofs and head and taillights and tore the vinyl siding off houses and buildings. Dealerships are now required by insurance companies to have hail nets over their lots. Either that or no coverage.
This will help gm get vehicles shipped quicker, or pay for repairs. Storms are becoming more severe. I don’t want my vehicles sitting outside, I garage my babies so this doesn’t happen.
You would think that they could have some type of roofs to store the new vehicles under, i.e., tents, etc. It doesn’t take too many smarts to figure this one out.
Sounds like the Colorado and Canyon are from Elm Street. Nothing, but a nightmare.

Ya I saw one on the Deerfoot Trail in Calgary a week ago. It was like a cinnamon red colour. Man it looked good.
Move production back to California wear we do not have the $hit hole weather that some of the south and midwest states seem to get every year.
After waiting 4 months for my 24 Canyon, it arrived with 4 vehicles that had terrible hail damage. Mine had been repaired and I refused delivery. The dealer ordered me another one and it was built on April 16th, and it’s still sitting there, I am afraid it also is damaged. Totally unacceptable by GM and how to you find out if it has been repaired. It should be a law that they disclose it was a repaired vehicle.
You have every right to inquire about the new vehicle. They are obligated to tell it the vehicle has been damaged and then repaired. They cannot sell it as new unless you are willing to accept it. Full disclosure is what you should receive from your dealer. I stated in a previous post that GM should have some type of shelter to protect these new vehicles that are awaiting shipment. I think GM and there executive are getting a little milky in the filbert.
In Louisiana a dealer is required to disclose damage exceeding 6% of the MSRP of the vehicle that has been repaired but that is only if the damage occurred while in the new car dealer’s possession
