Production of both the 2024 Chevy Colorado and 2024 GMC Canyon has been in full swing since January 2nd, 2024, but shipment of both pickups was delayed thanks to a stop-sale order issued by General Motors. Now, deliveries of both the Canyon and Colorado have commenced, putting them one step closer to the hands of their buyers.
This announcement has been a long time coming. GM Authority checked into what was going on with 2024 Chevy Colorado shipments and 2024 GMC Canyon shipments in late February, as no dealers had yet received any. A source familiar with the matter told us that newly produced trucks were being held for “quality” much in the same way that new units of the 2023 Chevy Colorado and 2023 GMC Canyon were held following the launch of the all-new third-gen models.
The stop-sale order that affected the Chevy Colorado and GMC Canyon was related to “intermittent software quality issues” that were discovered during the vehicle validation process. As many as 15,000 units were affected. However, once the fix was identified and implemented, new units of the Colorado and Canyon began landing at dealers in late February though the stop-sale was still active. At the time, a spokesperson told GM Authority that the order was expected to be short-lived and sales would soon resume, which they did at the end of February.
To note, the stop-sale order never affected production of the Chevy Colorado and GMC Canyon at the GM Wentzville plant in Missouri.
As a reminder, the 2024 Chevy Colorado and 2024 GMC Canyon offer two engine options, including the turbocharged 2.7L I4 L2R Gasoline engine and turbocharged 2.7L I4 L3B gasoline TurboMax engine. The updated GMT 31XX platform provides the bones.

How many are now held up with hail damage?
My Z71 arrived yesterday! Glacier Blue. Ordered in mid-Dec. So excited!
When I signed for my Canyon yesterday, my salesman advised that none had been damaged due to the storm…
Newly built ones are being shipped out, but the ones built in January are a trickle at getting out of the holding lots. Now the hail storm I’m sure will delay those further.
My Zr2 was built January 4th. I still do not have it. Originally ordered a ’23 last August. Which then turned into a ’24. So basically 7 months have now passed and nothing to show for. Hasn’t been a great buying experience thus far.
Ordered June of 23. Still waiting for any confirmation. Switched to 2024 on December 15th. Told these would be done 1st. That was a lie. Still waiting . What a crappy company to deal with. No customer service at all.
All in transit. Been looking for Z71 Convience Pkg III JUST TO GET MEMORY SEAT & LEATHER. Just 3 found and 2 were white. No silver, red or black?
Only saw 1 Silver at my dealer, not much equip. My Canyon dealer in St. Augustine tried to up sell me with fees and Advantage pkge.(((no Advantage to me– only him))) costing $3629 more+ an extra $195 in taxes on that for a total >>$3824 in profit for him.
Told him NO TWICE, He kept adding it.
Gm employee pricing is only allowed $75 FEE— Even the salesman said it should only be $75— Manager is just some punk kid… I had met him earlier…
There’s a butt for every seat— just not mine!!! It road nice… Z71 SHOULD BE JUST AS GOOD, if I can find one & $4-$5,000 less, when I did a Chevy build—-
My 24 AT4 was built in early January I was told by my dealer. Still no truck, dealer has not heard anything. Now a hail storm. 5 Months since ordering . My trade in losing value every day. You think GM maybe would offer a 0% interest rate for the customers who have waited way to long.!!!! Yah right..
order mine in late January too , they say it is done ????? still waiting on it. Totally agree with you on the trade in $$ and interest rate.
Ordered a Colorado aug 23. Asked for a refund Dec 23 as it had not yet been built. Tried ordering a Canyon, told I had more chance. Checked late January 24, had not started to be built yet then saw a Nissan Frontier Fx4 at the car show in green, loved it. I went to my local dealer, had it two weeks later. I am so happy with it, no regrets!
I ordered a 2023 GMC Canyon Denali on March 31, 2023 and the dealership still did not get an allocation to build. I canceled the order a week ago, got my deposit back and went to a larger dealership who do have allocations available, so they ordered one. The order is supposed be accepted the end of this week. I hope all goes well, I don’t want to change brands like you did. I hope you are happy with your Frontier.
I would like to know how you got your deposit back. I ordered in July 2023 and was told I couldn’t get my deposit back once it was submitted. Very frustrated here as well. Just checked today and still in the preliminary stages
Hopefully you paid by Credit Card.
YOU CAN DISPUTE A CREDIT CARD CHARGE. Just call your card company even if it’s been paid.
Don’t let them keep your deposit!!!!!
That is B.S. You are not getting anything for your money. They are cheating you. Contact your State Attorneys General office and file a claim. Don’t take any crap!
You can get your deposit back. If you didn’t receive anything in exchange for the money you provided, they have to refund your money. Contact your State Attorneys General’s office and explain your situation. My dealership had no problem with giving me my deposit back after waiting over a year for a vehicle that wan’t even built yet. This is crazy!
Are these the trucks that dent from a car wash? Or have the headlight switch on a touchscreen? From Delco, the Prince of Darkness? No thanks…
I had a factory order a GMC Canyon Denali in January 24, from my local dealership. I ask the sales person at the time if I found one online could he get it for me ( NO Problem) he told me. I found one in transit to a dealer 5 hours from my house, I informed my local dealership and gave them the Vin. Number and the dealer name and phone number. I was texted back, they would look into it and get back to me? ( not a word came back to me) I called the dealer that was getting the Canyon, the sales representative told me when and what time the truck was scheduled to arrive. I gave him a deposit over the phone ( Got my deposit back from my local dealer) and a week later I drove the 5 hours and picked up my 2024 GMC Canyon Denali. Thanks
My dealer entered my order on January 5, 2024, and I had not heard anything since. I ordered the Nitro Yellow Metallic which last week I found out is being discontinued. I chatted with GM and found out my order had never been accepted by GM, it was still sitting out in they system due to an accessory I ordered was not available. My dealership never notified of the hold, so I sat for 3 months thinking my truck was being produced and it was even ordered yet. Needless to say, me and the dealership has some not so kind words on Saturday. In the long run, it all worked out as they had a 2023 ZR2 Desert Boss on lot and I was able to work out deal to pretty much get the $10,000 Desert Boss package for $2000. It was manufactured in November of 2023 so all the early bugs were already worked out. For those of you who are still waiting, you are going to LOVE this truck. Brought it home on Saturday and I am amazed every day of the new features and what it an do.
Many dealership won’t take the initiative to find out what is happening. I have waited for a year and still no allocation to build. Got my deposit back and went to a larger dealership who claim they have allocations available.
I hope I’m not wasting my time.
Put a deposit on Feb 15 for a Colorado ZR2 , ordered accepted 34 days later. No TPW yet, I’m
banking on June for delivery, dreamer?
WORST ROLL-OUT EVER.
I ordered a ’23 Canyon AT4, Dynamic Blue w/ advanced trailering package & sprayed-on bed liner (and THAT’S it) in July. It arrived as a ’24 at my dealer on Jan 28th, and I signed for and drove home on Jan 30th. No factory sprayed-on bed liner, salesman advised it will be outsourced/scheduled to a local ‘partner’ soon (to my inconvenience. Grrrrr). It was apparently unique enough to park in the showroom for 48 hours as opposed to out in the lot. Definitely a different beast than the ’17 Colorado Z71 I traded in – will take some getting used to. Kinda feel I got screwed though, as they only gave 22,000 for my trade in (at 32,000 miles), and 7.5% interest (thanks Joe) despite 500 custom order deposit EIGHT months ago, 500 military discount, and 4,000 cash at signing…
Oops, March 28th and March 30th…original post wouldn’t allow me to edit…
