At a certain power level, even drag slicks and four-wheel drive will struggle to put it all to the pavement – doubly so when you’re dealing with a no-prep surface. Of course, that’s where driver skill becomes the determining factor in a race. Now, we’re watching all that play out in dramatic fashion with the following drag racing video between a 1,500-horsepower Chevy Silverado and a twin-turbo Audi R8 V10.
Once again coming to us from the Hoonigan crew, it’s a “This vs. That” showdown for bragging rights. Representing the Chevy side is Beto from Ondgas Racing, who’s behind the wheel of one absolutely ridiculous 2002 Chevy Silverado 1500. Making it move is a sleeved Texas Speed 5.3L V8 opened up to a 427 and boosted with two turbochargers and alcohol to produce an estimated 1,500 horsepower. The V8 sends output to all four wheels through a TH400 automatic transmission. Speaking of wheels, we see a set of 28s at all four corners on 15-inch by 12-inch rollers. There’s also new suspension, and the crew also added lightness with a few fiberglass body components and Lexan windows. Don’t forget the custom wing and parachute in the back.
That’s all pretty impressive, but the competition is packing some firepower as well. Over in the other lane, you’ll find a modified 2018 Audi R8, which rolled off the factory line with a 5.2L V10. Now, the V10 is running FlexFuel with a pair of 62mm Precision turbochargers, boosting output to around 1,200 horsepower. The factory seven-speed dual-clutch transmission was upgraded as well to help it handle the power, with the factory gears swapped for new billet components. The clutch, diff, and other components were upgraded as well.
Put it all together, and these two machines are sure to post some impressive numbers in the quarter mile. Check out the matchup for yourself in the video below:
