The crossover segment remains as popular as ever, with consumers eagerly gobbling up heaps of CUVs and automakers responding by filling every segment niche imaginable. One of these niches is the crossover coupe body style, which tends to command a premium thanks to attractive, coupe-like exterior styling. That said, Cadillac is utterly absent from the crossover coupe segment niche.
For those readers who may be unaware, crossover coupes are a type of CUV that incorporates a sloping rear roofline, lending the vehicle a more elegant, fastback-like silhouette. These stand in contrast to more traditional utility vehicle profiles, which tend to be taller and more box-like.
The Germans were the first to introduce utility models with a coupe-like profile, with models like the BMW X6, Mercedes GLE-Class, and Audi Q8 being among the first. These days, there are additional players in this space, including the Porsche Cayenne Coupe and Range Rover Evoque. Even the Japanese are getting in on the action, with the Inifiniti QX55 offered as the only entry in this niche not from a European-based manufacturer, slotting in as the budget option at a little over $50,000.
Although crossover coupes are generally low-volume, they’re also highly profitable, as buyers are usually willing to pay a premium over non-coupe counterparts. For example, the BMW X5 starts at $65,200, versus $73,900 for the BMW X6; the Infiniti QX50 starts at $41,000, versus $50,150 for the Infiniti QX55; and the Porsche Cayenne starts at $79,200, versus $84,300 for the Porsche Cayenne Coupe.
The question, then, becomes this – where are the Cadillac crossover coupes?
Two of the most obvious candidates for “coupe-ification” would be the Cadillac XT4 and Cadillac XT5. However, the XT6 could also make for an excellent crossover coupe, as explored in an exclusive GM Authority rendering published in 2020. The Chinese-exclusive Cadillac GT4 is also worth a mention as a possible design direction for a hypothetical Caddy-branded coupe crossover.
For now, the closest thing GM has to an SUV coupe is the Buick Envista, which, as GM Authority covered previously, competes on the budget end of its class.
But we want to know – should Cadillac offer a crossover coupe as well? Tell us by voting in the poll below, and remember to subscribe to GM Authority for more Cadillac news, GM business news, and around-the-clock GM news coverage.

I disagree. The most obvious candidates are the Lyriq and Vistiq. GM isn’t going to inve$t anything beyond the absolute minimum into ICE crossovers.
Please don’t. This is a very stupid category and low volume luxury brands like Infiniti don’t sell many of them. A better idea is to bring the redesigned XT5 and XT6. Seriously who asked for these Coupe Utility Vehicles?
Low volume, extremely high margin. Higher than Escalade even.
Infiniti is not the example. The Germans are. Full stop.
Yes but Cadillac will follow the example of Infiniti. NOT the Germans.
I really think Cadillac needs a full size sedan and a roadster. Still confused why an xlr wasn’t in the mentions when the c8 was revealed
Because they wouldn’t sell enough to recoup the design and manufacturing (setup) cost.
Cadillac should design a real crossover coupe, like the defunct Land Rover Evoque 2-door compact SUV coupe. Anything on the Eldorado, CTS coupe, ATS coupe tradition? Even though it’s a niche segment, would like to think that a versatile Personal vehicle for the non-family haulers or no kids or empty nesters is an option for some over the 5, 6, 7 or 8 passenger universe of mainstream offerings
GM is in the business of making money, not trying to have a vehicle in every segment, just because.
GM Authority continues to ask the REAL questions…true journalism
Cadillac, please revive the Rldorado and the Fleetwood Broughams! Both automobiles were always my favorite automobiles I’ve owned over the years. I have always owned Cadillacs and would definitely love to own another Eldorado Biarritz or Fleetwood Brougham if Cadillac would design and build those two beautiful automobiles again.
An alpha platform performance crossover, coupe or not, is the most glaring omission from the Cadillac and/or Chevy lineup. If gm had any resources to spare, they should be rushing a rwd/awd blazer and xt4 replacement using the bones of the Camaro they starved, poisoned, and killed.
They could probably manage to do both an xt4 4cyl coupe cross and an xt5 traditional big box cross both on the excellent sedan underpinnings. This opens up powertrain and price point possibilities from grandma’s current xt5 to dad’s bmw x5 to a 3.6tt v series and a 6.2l blackwing.
That bmw x6 looks like a ct5 with a lift kit. We don’t need that.
If they want to keep going with “coupes” the envista can spawn an xt2.
The current xt4, useless and irrelevant as it may be, sort of fits the coupe profile already. Rename it xt3 and move on. People might excuse the tiny interior if it was positioned lower.
Xt7 could come as a grand coupe cross from the Colorado platform with 3/4 Escalade style and a sloping rear hatch similar to how Audi a7 slots under/next to a8. Think range rover.
Xt6 needed to derive from ct6, and probably isn’t worth the bother to fix or offer coupe variant. Lincoln has this segment nailed with aviator and Korea Has very appealing entries too. Adding a 6-size coupe won’t fix what’s wrong. Until/unless the ct6 platform returns to the US, I think Cadillac has to concede this segment as lost.
These coupes are not exactly big sellers.
Redesign the Xt6 to bridge both categories. It would ab a sleeker design as well as increased cargo space. With that being said it must be marketed better than the current Xt6
coup is a no for us we love our xt6 and plan on getting a her and his.. that’s how much we love our xt6.. enough room and most Americans want to stay away from the mini van and the large suv.. xt6 hands down the best fit for us.. we travel to az from socal at least twice a month.. what a pleasure it is to go back and fort.. Go caddy xt6.. thank you cadillac.. keep it going👍👍👍
I’m not a fan of SUV Coupes but Cadillac should offer an XT5 Coupe to be competitive
A coupe is a 2 door. Period!
Have you been in school lately. New math.
I am looking forward to the end of this fad
I would immediately build online and buy a Cadillac CT-5 Blackwing loaded if it was offered in a 2 door coupe…!!!
Base the cross coupe off the CTS Coupe of a few years past only make it not a 4-door. The other option is do an update of the Eldorado Brougham which was one for the first 4-door coupe’s in America.
If it’s a 4 door then it’s not a coupe, and none of them are worth the money you idiots are paying for this cars.
