This Package Is Practically Mandatory For Chevy Colorado Buyers In Cold Climates

Winter is most definitely in full swing throughout most of North America, and that means that snow and ice are out in abundance. Obviously, these two elements present potential hazards to vehicles, from reduced traction, to affected mechanical components – or even reduced visibility. As such, we think there’s one package that’s practically mandatory for Chevy Colorado buyers battling ice and snow in colder climates.

Iced-out mirrors on a Chevy Colorado.

Basically, it boils down to this – heated outboard mirrors can provide a huge benefit for those folks living in cold climates. However, the feature isn’t standard for most trim levels of the third-generation Chevy Colorado, with WT, LT, and Trail Boss models offering heated mirrors as optional. Only Z71 and ZR2 trims offer heated mirrors as standard. As such, some owners might not be able to see what’s behind and around them if their outboard mirrors get iced out.

The issue may be made worse by the fact that many units of the Chevy Colorado were purchased from an out-of-state dealer that specced the truck for a climate that didn’t see too much snow and ice, as during the initial months that the third-gen Colorado hit the market, inventory was sparse and many customers were dealer trading or going out of state to make the purchase.

As such, heated mirrors should be a top consideration. However, the package required to equip heated mirrors varies depending on the trim level in question. Check out the table below for more information on mirror availability for the 2023 through 2024 Chevy Colorado (relevant RPO codes listed in parentheses):

  1. Should be standard equipment! Even Texas can have ice storms, you don’t have to be in the frozen north. The few dollars they cost will hardly hurt GM’s profits.

    1. That’s why us Canadians switch to a dog sled team during the winter months. Scraping a 1mm layer of ice off of a mirror is to unbearable.

  2. Most of them have them and if not the window scraper works there too.

No need to get too dramatic on this. Beside with global warming they say we’re all going to burn up anyways lol!

  3. If you have a garage like most people do in the North, this is not a problem very often, but it should remain as an option.
