Some 2021 Corvette Units Will Need Transmission Control Module Reprogramming

Some units of the 2021 Corvette Stingray may require a Transmission Control Module reprogramming. The error in the module software could result in the active permanent status of a Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC). To address this issue, General Motors has released a new service update.

Some 2021 Corvette units may need to have their transmission reprogrammed.

The new GM Service Update is tagged as N212350930, and was released in February of 2024. The service update only affects units of the C8 Corvette Stingray produced for the 2021 model year. GM did not specify the number of units potentially affected by this issue.

According to the service update, certain 2021 model-year Chevy Corvette vehicles may incorrectly read an active permanent status for Transmission Control Module DTC P2781 (Downshift Switch Circuit High). This could result in an automatic failure during emissions testing in jurisdictions that check the permanents status of engine codes as part of the emissions testing protocol.

In order to address this issue, GM is instructing dealers to reprogram the Transmission Control Module with updated software through a dealer repair. It’s also possible that vehicles involved in this service update can be reprogrammed using an over-the-air software update.

The 2021 Corvette Stingray is equipped with the M1L eight-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission co-developed between General Motors and Tremec, which directs output exclusively to the rear wheels. The eight-speed automatic is mated to the naturally aspirated 6.2L V8 LT2 gasoline engine, which is rated at 490 horsepower and 465 pound-feet of torque without the optional performance exhaust. With the optional performance exhaust, those numbers climb to 495 horsepower and 470 pound-feet of torque.

Under the skin, all C8 Corvette variants ride on the GM Y2 platform. Production takes place exclusively at the GM Bowling Green plant in Kentucky.

Notably, some 2023 Corvette Z06 units were serviced with the wrong main control valve body, resulting in a new Customer Satisfaction Program (N232418320), as GM Authority covered previously.

  3. My 2021 Corvette produced in Feb 2021. Delivered March 23 has a recurring DTC issue where I am stuck and cannot shift out of park, cannot get reverse. Dealer knows about it, But GM seems to refuse to call it a problem.
