An enormous collection of rare and unusual vehicles is headed to auction later this month, offering up passenger vehicles, train and locomotive assets, equipment, tools, automotive culture pieces, and more. The collection also includes several vintage GM vehicles and antique Cadillac models. A video released prior to the auction showcases some of the highlight items in this extensive collection.
The auction concerns the Royce G. Kershaw Jr. Estate Collection, which was previously highlighted by Richard Rawlings from Gas Monkey Garage a few years back. In total, the collection includes roughly 50 different vehicles.
Standouts include a 1959 Cadillac Limousine previously owned by the State of Alabama and used by five former Alabama governors. This classic Caddy is one of only 690 Fleetwood Seventy Five Limousines produced in 1959, and shows the biggest design fin of any year for the big-fin era. The car retains its original paint, interior, and drivetrain, with a 390 cubic-inch V8 and four-barrel carburetor under the hood, mated to a four-speed automatic transmission.
Another interesting item is the one-of-a-kind Cruise-Aire, built by Glenn Pray. As the story goes, Kershaw purchased a new 1967 Oldsmobile Tornado with a 425 V8 back in 1966, which was sent to Pray to create an unusual custom mobile office. The exterior is composed of two fiberglass halves joined at the belt line, as well as a Chevy Corvette front bumper, Pontiac headlight doors, Chevy Camaro taillights, a GM pickup windshield, and more.
Further GM highlights include a 1913 Cadillac, a 1914 Cadillac, and a 1926 Cadillac. The collection also includes a 1913 Baldwin 2-6-0 Mogul Steam locomotive, a 1923 Edwards self-propelled passenger rail car, and other train-related items, all of which will be sold in a separate online auction in March.
The public estate auction will take place on February 21st at 7 p.m. in an online-only format. Public inspections are offered on Saturday, February 17th; Tuesday, February 20th; and Wednesday, February 21st; between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. The auction is hosted by Auction By Pearce.
