NASCAR Chevy Driver Boycotts Daytona 500 Over Payment Dispute

NASCAR Chevy driver Greg Biffle announced that he has boycotted the 2024 Daytona 500, despite the fact that his racing team brought a hauler and race car to the track this week bearing his signature and name, according to a report from Jayski.

Biffle’s team, NY Racing Team, is on the initial entry list for the Daytona 500 this coming weekend, with full sponsorship on board for the No. 44 Chevy Camaro ZL1. Biffle raced for the team in five events during the 2022 Cup Series season, and stated that he is not interested in competing for them this year as he has not been paid for those five races.

“It has come to my attention that images of a hauler and car with my name and signature on the side of it have been released,” Biffle said in a statement on social media. “While I had hoped to be running in the 2024 Daytona 500 this year – that will not be happening. Due to unfulfilled contract obligations from 2022 for myself and the team, I have made a hard decision to not participate in any races until the prior contract obligations have been fulfilled.”

He added, “I wish the team all the best and hopefully I will have the opportunity to race again and win this coveted race.”

As a reminder, Biffle retired from full-time Cup Series competition upon conclusion of the 2016 season. He returned to the division in 2022 to race with NY Racing Team, where he competed at Daytona, Las Vegas, Atlanta, Richmond and Talladega, all of which he alleges he has not received payment for.

At this time, it’s not clear who will drive the No. 44 NASCAR Chevy in the Daytona 500 on February 18th, 2024, or if NY Racing Team still intends to compete in the event.

  2. Dead beat owners in all businesses! The Biff was one of the best if given a good ride. Too bad he hooked up with a lousy owner.

  3. Too bad there has to this kind of krap! Bifflr, used to a pretty good driver when he was with Roush Racing. Things change. Can’t understand how he wasn’t paid LAST year! Nascar should have stepped in and not allowed this team to enter if they still owed the “Biff” cash.

  5. And what is the response from the owners? In all businesses employees get paid first, before any other financial debts.

  7. One race, maybe. OK, two races.
But FIVE races not paid for?
Difficult to understand why he kept racing with no pay.
    Something else going on here???
