More OnStar Features Now Standard On All 2025 GM Vehicles

General Motors has announced that every customer who buys a new 2025-model-year Buick, Cadillac, Chevy, or GMC vehicle will have access to a selection of popular OnStar features as standard. These features include Automatic Crash Response, remote vehicle commands, and navigation and voice assistance, all of which will be equipped as standard on 2025-model-year GM vehicles at no extra cost. The features are included as part of the new OnStar Basics package available for retail customers, and will be included for eight years with every new vehicle purchase.

“By standardizing some of our most appealing OnStar features, we can deliver more technology and value at every price point, helping ensure our vehicles and customers stay connected for the long term,” said president, GM North America, Marissa West. “With this move, every new vehicle in our lineup will include a compelling set of safety and connected services that is distinct to GM thanks to nearly 30 years of OnStar experience and innovation.”

The brand’s Automatic Crash Response feature connects customers to an Emergency Advisor moments after an accident, even if they are unresponsive. The advisor can then provide medical assistance and relay information to first responders. Meanwhile, remote vehicle commands allow customers to manage their vehicle using their smartphone, providing features like remote lock and unlock, remote start, and vehicle location. Finally, navigation and voice assistance adds apps like Alexa Built-in, Google Assistant, Google Maps, and Waze.

The 2025 Chevy Trax and 2025 Buick Envista will be among the first vehicles to include the new One Essentials package.

At present, 2024-model-year Chevy, most Buick, most GMC, and most Cadillac vehicles are equipped as standard with the 3 Years of Remote Access plan (RPO code PRF), which provides remote control of properly configured vehicles, including remote door locking, vehicle status, roadside assistance, and more.

Additionally, 2024-model-year Buick Avenir, GMC Denali / Denali Ultimate, and Cadillac Escalade models are equipped as standard with the 3 Years of Premium Plan (RPO code R9M). The OnStar Safety & Security Services and Connected Services includes the OnStar Guardian app, connectivity for available In-Vehicle Apps, In-Vehicle Wi-Fi Hotspot data, and Remote Access through the myBuick mobile app.

  9. You know I read somewhere that after the plans ended GM still tracks things in the car and if you want them to stop you have to ask them in writing or such. I wonder how much truthe is in that….something I stumbled into reading some 5 or more years ago.

    1. Yes. GM tracks your car whether onstar is active or not. The hardware is in everything you buy from GM except some fleet vehicles.

Just like the so called “smart driver” on your app. They track your speed, throttle position et al.
      Just so you know.

It matters to most people except certain vichy types like big poopy that are fine with a police state.

  11. Smart driver or not, the data goes into GM thru onstar. I can tell you for a fact, tracking is done of DTC’s and other vehicle data and released to the engineering product teams. This has been done for at least 25 years years or more. Seems innocent enough but it can be used for other purposes easily.

Every data point in the vehicle from seat sensors to crash data can be examined one way or the other . How do you think they can tell from derm or airbag deployment via onstar? Or throttle limit when the vehicle has been stolen?

  12. No extra cost. Its built into the MSRP. Raise the price for the new model year that includes the normal price increase for the new model year, plus the additional increase for the eight years of OnStar. You’re paying for it. There never is no extra cost. Plus all the money they make while spying on you while in your car! Brilliant!

  13. I said no on three chevys, but they don’t make it easy. Operator actually got made at me. Told her I don’t want anything to do with on star. I can use my cell phone for almost everything I need and I can check my own oil level and when the oil needs to be changed. Thanks but no thanks. I’d prefer a price decrease.

  14. Where is the onstar module in the 2025 trailblazer, also where can I find information on completely removing onstar from the vehicle? Not calling and canceling I’m talking about removing all of it. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.
