Ineos Fusilier Electric SUV Unveiled With No Direct GM Rival

The Ineos Fusilier, a compact SUV designed with the off-road enthusiast in mind, was recently revealed in London. It enters a growing segment where it won’t directly compete with any GM models.

Developed in conjunction with Magna International, the Fusilier borrows design cues from its big brother, the Ineos Grenadier off-road SUV, but features a shorter length and lower overall height. Magna is the contract manufacturer that makes the Mercedes-Benz G-Class, which explains this SUV’s resemblance to that boxy icon. The Fusilier rides on a skateboard platform and boasts a tough steel top hat and underbody, while its doors are made of aluminum.

Perhaps the most unique aspect of the Ineos Fusilier is that is it offered with a purely electric drivetrain or a hybrid electric configuration. Ineos describes the latter as its “range-extender” option and says the hybridized setup better meets current consumer trends while encouraging decarbonization.

“As we developed this vehicle, we quickly concluded that in order to move towards decarbonization but continue making cars that consumers want to drive,” said Sir Jim Ratcliffe, chairman of Ineos, in a press release. “We need a mix of powertrain technologies. BEVs are perfect for certain uses: shorter trips and urban deliveries, but industry and governments need to have realistic expectations around other technologies that can accelerate the necessary pace of change.”

Currently, Ineos offers the Grenadier and will soon launch the Grenadier Quartermaster pickup. Both are outfitted with the turbocharged 3.0L I6 engine sourced from BMW, which delivers 282 horsepower and 332 pound-feet of torque and is managed by an eight-speed automatic transmission. At this time, the automaker has not revealed specifications for either powertrain available in the Ineos Fusilier.

As previously stated, GM does not currently offer a direct rival to the forthcoming Fusilier. The only off-road-focused EVs that GM offers are the GMC Hummer EV and the Hummer EV Pickup, but both of these vehicles are larger than the Fusilier. However, the Fusilier is scheduled to go on sale in 2027. GM may have a smaller hybrid or electric alternative to the Hummer available by then.

No, this looks like this because its an Ineos Grenadier twin, that is built to look like the old-school defender 110, it has nothing to do with Mercedes design which was done for the Shah of Iran back in ze day.
