For those Chevy Silverado owners interested in using their pickup to tow, figuring out the towing capacities is a crucial first step. Luckily, there are a few easy ways to go about doing exactly that, as highlighted by Chevrolet in the following brief explainer video.
Product Marketing Manager, Silverado 1500, Kristin Baragwanath serves as video host, leading the viewer through the process of determining how much their Chevy Silverado can tow over the course of about two minutes.
For starters, Baragwanath suggests checking the vehicle owner’s manual and the trailering information label on the driver’s door jamb. The manual and the label will provide specs like Gross Vehicle Weight Rating (GVWR), Gross Combined Weight Rating (GCWR), Gross Axle Weight Rating (GAWR), curb weight, and max tongue weight, as well as other helpful trailering and hauling specs.
Using these specs, you can figure out exactly how much your Chevy Silverado can tow through the following formula – take your vehicle curb weight and add the passenger, cargo, and fuel weights, then subtract the vehicle’s gross combined weight rating. This will yield the vehicle’s maximum towing capacity. Alternatively, you can use the load calculator included in the myChevrolet mobile app to quickly calculate your Silverado’s tow capacity, while a trailering guide is also offered at Chevrolet.com.
There’s also the Chevy Trailering App available via the Silverado’s infotainment system. The trailering app allows users to store up to five custom trailer profiles, outlining things like hitch type and trailer type, as well as giving the profile a custom name. The app also includes a list of safety checks to perform prior to setting off, and includes an option to flash the trailer light to make sure they are working as intended. Finally, the app includes a maintenance reminder to keep your trailer running in top condition.

…went you start smelling transmission fluid.
Continuing to show a person on video who is looking at a screen reading in a monotone voice is a useless waste of time.
Just show the truck with the persons voice, audio only.
Most beneficial would be having the configurator update the towing capacity as you build your Silverado or GMC Sierra. This way there woud be no surprises (Disapointment) at time of delivery.
Want to tow? Buy a diesel truck! Diesel can out tow any gas engine! 👌
