Here May Be Why Your 2024 Chevy Silverado HD Headlights Are Flashing

Owners of select units of the 2024 Chevy Silverado HD pickup truck may have noticed an odd condition. Owners have reported instances of the headlamps flashing randomly or the windshield wipers pausing while wiping. Sometimes, both quirks happen simultaneously. Luckily for the owners of these capable trucks, a solution has been discovered. Here’s how to fix this inconvenience.

According to a writeup on GM TechLink, the Body Control Module (BCM) communicates with the Lighting Control Module (LCM) via CAN in order to operate the headlamps and wipers. If an affected truck’s battery dips below the threshold in the LCM during a cranking event, or if the battery has been discharged and needs a jump start, the Lighting Control Module may go into a reset every eight to ten seconds, which causes the headlamps to flash.

This all makes the voltage diagnostics in the Lighting Control Module fail, which in turn throws the P0606 Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC). From there, the best path forward is to test the battery following the recommended testing procedures in the appropriate Service Information. If you get a low voltage reading, replacing the battery should solve the problem. Alternatively, simply disconnecting the battery will reset the LCM.

As a reminder, the 2024 Chevy Silverado HD is equipped with the naturally aspirated 6.6L V8 L8T gasoline engine, rated at 401 horsepower and 464 pound-feet of torque, as standard across the entire trim lineup. The optional 6.6L V8 L5P turbodiesel Duramax engine – uprated for the mid-cycle refresh to 470 horsepower and 975 pound-feet of torque – is also available. Both engines are mated to the Allison-branded 10-speed automatic transmission.

Regarding the structure, the Chevy Silverado HD rides on a more-capable variant of the GM T1 platform – which it shares with its corporate platform mate, the 2024 GMC Sierra HD. Production officially commenced in March 2023 at the GM Flint plant in Michigan and a few weeks later at the GM Oshawa plant in Canada.

  2. Nowhere does the article say that the condition existed at the time the truck left left the assembly plant. Battery condition is the responsibility of the truck owner, not the manufacturer. There are a lot of reasons that a battery, truck or car, may get a low voltage condition in its battery (everything from lack of use in cold weather to a charging system problem.

    1. So you think a low battery condition in a brand new truck is an owner maintenance issue? At the very least, the battery would be covered under manufacture’s warranty, and if there is a parasitic draw, on a new truck, it, too, would be covered under warranty – and there are a lot of reasons why an owner of a new truck should expect reliable performance.

    1. Well Steven B there is a modern thing called a battery tender that you plug into a car that’s not being used…cars nowadays are run by computers you just can’t let it drain then just jump start it some manufacturers say to avoid jump starting I have owned five GM vehicles and have never had this problem even in the cold weather…I say it’s owner negligence my friends a mechanic and you’d be surprised by how many people just don’t maintain to their cars.

  4. I had the same issue on a 2024 truck. Changed battery and that did nothing . We reset module and that did not solve the issue The problem turned out to be a bad ground wire . Once we tightened the ground wire problem was solved.

  5. Just unplugged passenger side battery to fix the twitching light issue and plugged it back in. Worked perfectly! Thanks!

  6. My lights started flashing after the battery died because the tailgate switch assembly failed and clicked on and off all night. After jump starting the vehicle all the lights flash I am hopeful unplugging the battery will fix the lights, but I have to wait weeks to get service on the tailgate.
