SAIC-GM-Wuling, General Motors’ second joint venture in China, has just revealed official renderings of a potentially upcoming Wuling Starlight Wagon.
The automaker unveiled the first design images of the Wuling Starlight Wagon, a future variant of Wuling’s midsize new energy vehicle (NEV) that debuted last year in sedan configuraton in China – available with fully electric and a plug-in hybrid powertrains. SGMW is considering a possible introduction of the Starlight Wagon in the Chinese market.
As such, the upcoming Wuling Starlight Wagon is in a preliminary study phase and is not yet confirmed for production. However, the joint venture is so excited about the project that it decided to reveal official renderings to gauge public interest while conducting market research with target customers.
The Wuling Starlight Wagon is based on the PHEV variant of the new Starlight sedan and shares many design elements with it. This includes the exact same front fascia, the lower potions of the doors as well as the rear section – with the model’s characteristic lighting elements. The changes are found in the lower and longer roofline, incorporating a prominent D-pillar with a stylized rear-quarter window.
Notably, the Wuling Starlight Wagon renderings present the car with a special styling kit called Black Warrior along with an aerodynamic roof carrier and sporty six-spoke wheels. The striking overall design gives the Starlight Wagon an athletic stance and more muscular proportions than the sedan.
The Wuling Starlight Wagon is pitched as a potential new variant of the midsize Starlight in China, where the PHEV sedan has enjoyed strong initial sales. For now, the wagon-bodied Starlight is only in the design stage and Wuling has yet to confirm plans to bring it to production.

Really depends on the market there. EU seems to buy wagons, US not so much, as we’ve discussed before. But I’m sure all those people who said bring a wagon to the US will chime in again even though they know the sales numbers of wagons launched here. And as I said before, I OWN a wagon and have for over a decade now.
US buys a ton of wagons, they just call them crossovers.
Crossovers are taller and unless an EV have a higher center of gravity which impacts handling. EV’s of course have a battery as a 1 ton anchor, and so have low COG’s.
Not really though. A lot of things they market as crossovers aren’t that tall, and have poor ground clearance. They just throw some black plastic cladding on a hatchback or small wagon and voila! Fools will fall for it every time.

Sharp looking wagon. Build it here in the USA, offer it with a IC engine with some HP and Hybrid option and it would probably sell well here in the USA.
I agree with you here. We should not be building American vehicles anywhere but here in the USA. Want to export vehicles is OK but not building them elsewhere. Tomg
Building local is the best for costs and environment. No reason they can’t build in multiple locations.
Build it here as a BUICK and export it to China and others.

Would love to see it on a CT5 platform in the US. Remember the CTS Wagon. Didn’t sell well but Cadillac made no effort to sell it. Find one now in good shape and it costs more than most vehicles of the same type. Find a CTS-V Wagon and you pay a lot!!
CTS-V was a low 12 second quarter mile sleeper. 6.2 Supercharged 556HP Awesome!
My dealer did try to sell them. I bought a Vagon from stock. He sold precisely 2 during the entire run. Both were stock, not special order. On the other hand, the coupe’s were flying off the shelves and he could not keep them in stock. Those had ADM. I got a substantial discount to take it off their hands. I still own it, and yes, quite valuable. But when you are one of 1600, scarcity, it becomes valuable. And I imagine a good number of that 1600 have been wrecked by now. They are wonderful cars. But I say it repeatedly, Wagons do not sell in quantity in the US. Most are foreign and are imported for a specific buyer.
It looks great…..interior and powertrain TBD, but really nice concept and design.
That would be a good Regal Sports Tour replacement.
Looks Good. Bring it to the US and we will convert from an SUV family to a Wagon family. At least give us a 2.0T w/250 H.P.
