GM’s All-New Wuling Yangguang EV Van Debuts In China

After images of Wuling’s all-electric van were first leaked last October, the all-new Wuling Yangguang EV has just officially debuted in China.

SAIC-GM-Wuling (SGMW), General Motors’ second joint venture in China, revealed the first images and official information of the all-new Wuling Yangguang EV – Wuling’s first all-electric next-generation van designed to completely renew the brand’s zero-emission commercial vehicle portfolio in the country. The manufacturer reports that the new Yangguang EV will be launched in the Chinese market during the first half of the year.

As such, the all-new Wuling Yangguang EV introduces the third generation of the brand’s successful line of commercial minibuses and becomes the first all-new model with the traditional red Wuling logo to be introduced in more than three years – since the launch of the successful Wuling MINI EV in mid-2020. With this model, Wuling begins a new era in China’s commercial vehicle market that it has led for more than two decades.

The all-new Wuling Yangguang EV presents an evolution of the “mechanical aesthetics” design language with softened shapes and simple lines focused mainly on practicality. The front has horizontally elongated headlights and the logo just above the charging port, as well as a more enveloping format designed to improve passive safety in the event of a collision compared to flat-front models such as the veteran Wuling Rongguang.

The Wuling Yangguang EV body divided between the two-passenger cabin and cargo area measures 196.3 inches long, 70.9 inches wide and 77.8 inches high, riding on a 120.1-inch wheelbase. It is equipped with a new lithium iron phosphate battery pack called Wuling Red No. 1 in two capacities, with a corresponding electric range of 230 and 300 km (143 and 186.4 miles, respectively).

The all-new Wuling Yangguang EV made its official debut in China and will be launched during the spring months in the Asian country, as confirmed by SGMW itself. The new generation Wuling Red No. 1 battery pack with intelligent temperature control system is based on MUST ultra-thin structure technology, with a total thickness of 148 mm or less than six inches. This will feed a rear electric motor with a power of 60 kW or 80 horsepower.
