The third-generation GMC Canyon made its formal introduction for the 2023 model year, debuting a wealth of updates and changes over the preceding 2022 model year. Among these was an all-new exterior design. Notably, most third-generation GMC Canyon models feature a B-pillar applique, but not all. Now, GM Authority has uncovered why this is the case.
The B-pillar applique is assigned RPO code DW7, and is equipped as standard across the third-gen GMC Canyon lineup. However, the applique is not included on models finished in Onyx Black (paint code GBA) or Deep Bronze Metallic (paint code GXN).
Notably, the third-generation Chevy Colorado offers the B-pillar applique on LT, Z71, and ZR2 trim levels, but not WT or Trail Boss trims. Like the third-gen GMC Canyon, the third-gen Chevy Colorado also does not include the applique for models finished in Black or Harvest Bronze Metallic.
In an interview with GM design team members, GM Authority Executive Editor Alex Luft asked why the B-pillar applique was included with some models and colors but not others. According to the design team, the B-pillar applique was intended to give the midsize pickups a more-rugged look.
As for what’s under the skin, the third-generation GMC Canyon is equipped as standard with the turbocharged 2.7L I4 L3B gasoline engine, rated at a maximum of 310 horsepower at 5,600 rpm and 430 pound-feet of torque at 3,000 rpm. The Turbo High-Output variant of this engine adopts the TurboMax branding in conjunction with the 2024 model year. The four-cylinder connects to the second-generation GM eight-speed automatic transmission, which serves as the exclusive transmission option.
Updates for the 2024 model year include the introduction of the AT4X AEV Edition, which adds in several components from off-road specialist American Expedition Vehicles (AEV), including stamped steel bumpers, skid plates, 17-inch beadlock-capable wheels, Multimatic Jounce Control Dampers, and more.
Additionally, the eight-inch Driver Information Center was deleted with the 2024 model year, while an 11-inch Drive Information Center now included as standard on Elevation and AT4.
The updated GMT 31XX-2 platform provides the underpinnings across the third-gen GMC Canyon lineup, while production takes place at the GM Wentzville plant in Missouri.

So What???? You can order one, but you may NEVER see it!!!!
I totally agree with you. Where are the 2024’s🤨🤨🤨
My dealer has no answers either. They are completely in the dark also. I am going to try and send a registered to Mary Barra and see if she answers. This is so Twilight ZoneI can’t believe it.
Haha, like she’ll ever get it…
Sure and you rely on this forum for all of your information? Rumor and opinion.
Pardon my ignorance, but what is a B-plllar appliqué?
For those that don’t know: The B-pillar is what the rear doors are bolted to. The applique is not really on the B-pillar. It is on the rear part of the front door and the front part of the rear door. If you look at the pictures above, you can see the blacked out area between the front and rear windows. Not positive about the Canyon, but on my ’03 GMC Envoy there was a piece of metal wrapped around those areas.
After all this time. Now gm is messing around with the b pillar. Gm is starting to loose customers fast. Always parts or chips or something. Is there reason for producing the product. 2024 canyon won’t be out before the end of year. I
Would like to order a gmc canyon. But my dealer, always tell me. There waiting for There allocation. I built and got the price dealer has give me the ok to order. Guess gm wants you to buy else where.
Or so it would seem. I have been waiting for 11-1/2 months and still no allocation to build. I guess I will keep my 2021 Canyon Denali with the V-6 and enjoy the ride.
It’s no different for the Ford Ranger or Toyota Tacoma pick up….can’t get them either constraint and part issues …..although you can get a Honda Ridgeline and a Nissan Frontier however why would anybody want one of them.
Also if you are into ugly perhaps you can find a Jeep Gladiator.
Mine was built mid. January.
Agree with first comment. Mine 2024 Canyon was completed a month ago and is awaiting shipment. I’m not happy at all With GM😡. If I don’t receive it by the end of the month I will cancel and get a different pick up.
Well, even if it came in today, they’re now on stop-sale with a message that says ‘await further communication’, so you wouldn’t be able to take it home anyway.
Yeah, because this is all GM’s fault. Have you been living under a rock lately? Any idea what is going on outside of GM’s control with parts and shipping? But you go ahead with that entitled thought process…
Nothing sets off a $60,000 4 door pickup like cheap pieces of black plastic over the b-pillar sections of the window frames .
Visited largest Chevy dealer in NE MS last week. Salesman changed the subject when I asked where the 2024 Colorados were. Tried to show me a couple of used 2022’s. Friend wants a new WT. Nothing to be found but a couple of very expensive 2023 ZR2’s. GM really having trouble with updated model rollouts. Cheapest parts from the lowest bidder and all that. They, like others just assemble them with parts from all over the world. Look at the content % from all over on stickers.
Just got an email from the dealership that was sent form GM. Stating “ GM has informed the dealership that they are holding the Canyons on Quality Control, however they are unable to give the dealerships any additional information or possible release dates”. MORE WAITING 🤨
there seems to be more and more qaulity problms at gm all the time…what will it be next month??? no more gm for me
