GM To Fix GMC Acadia Crossovers With Defective Second-Row Seatbelt Buckles

GM has issued a customer satisfaction program to address an issue affecting certain 2015 to 2023 GMC Acadia crossovers in which the center seatbelt buckle of the second-row seating can slip down between the seats if the seat next to is tipped and moved forward.

Customer Satisfaction Program number N222393100 was launched in February 2024 and will be available for affected 2015 through 2023 GMC Acadia units through March 31st, 2026. Customer reimbursement is usually available to both US and Canadian Acadia owners.

Dealership service personnel should check the GM Global Warranty Management system before they apply the fix to a GMC Acadia unit that is brought in for repairs or maintenance. Vehicles affected by the seatbelt buckle issue will be marked as “Open” on their Investigate Vehicle History screen within the system.

If the second-row middle seat belt buckle is subject to the issue, the dealer service technicians should add an elastic strap to prevent it from falling down between the seats. The exact seatbelt buckle kit needed may vary by year so the mechanics should check to see which kit is required for a specific crossover.

The seatbelt buckle should also be inspected for damage resulting from slipping down between the seats. If there is any damage the buckle should also be replaced before the elastic buckle strap is installed. It may also be necessary to replace the second-row 40-percent hinge cover if it has become damaged.

The repair is expected to take anywhere from 12 minutes to 1 hour and 12 minutes depending on whether or not the buckle and/or hinge cover need to be replaced. Installing the elastic strap only takes the least amount of time. The strap is covered by a limited lifetime warranty.

Notably, this issue and its customer satisfaction program do not apply to GMC Acadia crossovers with second-row captain’s chairs.

Several other problems with the GMC Acadia have been noted in recent years. GM also issued a Customer Satisfaction Program for crossovers shipped with an undersized air conditioning compressor, as well as a fix for rear bearing noise. The General has also issued reimbursement checks to owners who were double-charged for the Performance Exhaust System (RPO code NPP) feature.

As a reminder, the GMC Acadia is motivated by two powerplant options, either the turbocharged 2.0L I4 LSY gasoline engine developing 228 horsepower and 258 pound-feet of torque, or the optional naturally aspirated 3.6L V6 LGX gasoline engine cranking out 310 horsepower and 271 pound-feet of torque. Output is directed through the GM nine-speed automatic transmission, while FWD is standard and AWD is optional.

Under the body panels, the Acadia uses the regular-wheelbase variant of the GM C1 platform for structure, while production takes place at the GM Spring Hill plant in Tennessee.
