Drivers using the GM Super Cruise semi-autonomous driver assistance system have driven more than 160 million miles with the technology active, The General has announced, counting only the accident-free trips involving its use for a snapshot of its effectiveness.
GM also notes that 80 percent of Super Cruise users find driving with the help of the system increases relaxation while on the road, and that Super Cruise is rated as the second-most-important factor in buying decisions for GM vehicles.
The General released the total miles driven and customer satisfaction figures at the same time it announced a near-doubling of Super Cruise road coverage in North America. The total extent of roadways offering the system’s hands-free driving will rise from the current 400,000 miles to 750,000 miles once the expansion is complete.
New roadways, including both divided highways and – for the first time – two-lane roads leading to smaller city destinations, will be added incrementally to vehicles equipped with the system. Over-the-air updates are used to expand the network with the highest level of convenience to the vehicle owner. The full rollout of the additional 350,000 miles will be complete by the end of 2025.
GM remarks that users “will be able to drive hands-free between more rural towns across the country – connecting families and destinations alike” once the full update is installed. This could prove especially useful to some drivers since, as the automaker points out, Super Cruise is the only current advanced driver assistance systems or ADAS with trailering capability. The combination of trailering support and rural road coverage could be very useful to recreational drivers towing RVs to remote areas.
The company puts the extent of its road coverage in perspective by noting the total length of covered roads is now equal to 130 road trips from coast to coast and back, or three one-way trips to the Moon.
Some new road coverage has already been added to most vehicles equipped with Super Cruise. However, GM does note that that the updated coverage will not be available for the Cadillac XT6, the Cadillac CT6, or the Chevy Bolt EUV.

They don’t count mileage WITH accidents !
So how many accidents would that be ?
This will continue until the lawsuits from deaths and maimings are greater than the profits from overpricing.
And if you don’t count the accidents it’s a
“100% Accident-Free System” .
…. you can’t make this stuff up .
The wording used here about accidents is GMAuthority, this isn’t how GM phrased it.
Why is the updated coverage not available to all vehicles that have Supercruise ? Seems kind of odd.
The CT6, Bolt EUV, and XT6 use old Super Cruise Hardware that can’t drive on some of the newly mapped roads.
These vehicles are all on the old vehicle electrical architectures and not VIP.
OK,I guess it makes to much sense to have the same system in all of the Super Cruise vehicles.
There is a good case to rethink of SuperCruise from a luxury feature to a safety feature. It should be in every GM vehicle, even if it is an optional feature that costs extra.
Someday most if not all vehicles will have some sort of “Super Cruise” and the number of naysayers will diminish. Think about Cruise Control. When it was first introduced many people said it was dangerous, etc. It is still dangerous and requires attention to what is going on in front and around the driver. I have the “Adaptive Cruise Control” in one of my cars but under no condition do I trust it completely and do not think I should. My attitude is to help in what way I can and do not employ the current “Cancel Culture” attitude so may have in our society today.
Cruise control actually saves on gasoline. For those who drive long distances, do two test drives, one with the system off, then a second with it on. You will notice tbe savings, plus you are more relaxed after the second trip. SuperCruise may give you the same benefits.
how does GM know that along with travel map
oh wait its one huge spyware thats how!
In case anyone’s interested, supercruise is not available on any Chevy or GM truck except the 1/2-ton high country and GM Denali.
It would have been nice to have been available on my 2022 Silverado LTZ dually. Since the back tires are much closer to the lane lines than a regular truck.
Many auto journalists say Supercruise is one of if not the best in the business. Though its not saying much because I tried out Teslas Autopilot and it fails to function properly in poorly marked backroads. Either way I have zero interest in these systems. I must have used the cruise control once in both my 2016 Rav4 and 2022 XT5 (this one has radar cruise control) and I never used them again. I prefer full control of my cars especially in crappy NJ traffic.
